About this deal

Chaos Space Marines • Havocs • Chosen • Chaos Terminators • Possessed • Greater Possessed • Khorne Berzerkers • Plague Marines • Noise Marines • Rubric Marines • Obliterators • Mutilators • Chaos Spawn • Fallen Angels • Noxious Blightbringer • Foul Blightspawn • Biologus Putrifier • Blightlord Terminators • Deathshroud We posted this in the Thousand Sons Faction Focus, but it’s worth reposting here where it’s less of a troll for readers. This list is patterned after the one that Davis Frye recently piloted to a 1st-place finish at a 9th-edition release party RTT in Virginia, and focuses on threat saturation with big daemons (Frye has given credit to Seth Riggins for coming up with the list). This index gives you the flexibility to play your entire Daemons collection. While I hope we get rules that provide additional benefits for mono-God armies (and I’d love to see Disciples Of Be’lakor make a return), Index: Chaos Daemons is a great start for Daemons players in 10th Edition. The Bloodthirster and Great Unclean one are still overpriced and the Great Unclean one suffers from the new terrain rules, which make it visible through obscuring terrain. The rest of the HQs made out OK with 5- and 10-point adjustments with the exception of the Winged Daemon Prince of Chaos (+30), who is the big loser here as a result of the inexplicable need to make every Daemon Prince cost the same amount of points despite having different statlines, rules, and powers. The Winged Daemon Prince was already a rare sight in Chaos Daemons and so that’s not likely to change now.

When employing blast weapons or psychic powers, try to make sure some Horrors are ‘inconveniently’ standing close by, and try to position the template as close to them as possible to maximize the chance that they ‘accidentally’ get caught in the affect. Lord of Change • Herald of Tzeentch ( Changecaster • Fateskimmer • Fluxmaster) • Daemon Prince of Tzeentch • Disc of Tzeentch • Flamer • Horror • Screamer • Burning Chariot of Tzeentch So what do you think? Are you happy to see this fluffy mechanic returned to the tabletop? And are Tzeentch’s new Horrors truly worthy of the name now? No Man’s Land: If you control at least half of the objective markers in No Man’s Land at the start of a phase, then No Man’s Land is considered within the Shadow Of Chaos. One of my favorite changes is the return of Instruments to their 8th Edition and earlier form, as they now provide +1 to Charge rolls for units that can take them again. With Icons improving Leadership by 1, both upgrades provide real benefits for the units carrying them. Mechanically in tabletop it implied pink horrors could function as low level wizards who once split into blue horrors shifted roles into a more poor melee fodder role. Though in 8th edition blue horrors as models themselves were nixed on the table and restricted down to a rule using markers of a sort.

Use a Herald of Tzeentch or other suitable sorcerous companion to cast Sacrifice, choosing one of the Horrors as the victim. This is a bigger deal for competitive play than casual, but previously many rules such as Psychic powers, add-on Warlord Traits and Relics, and using stratagems that Exalt your Greater Daemons were done at the start of the game, after you’d seen your opponent’s list, allowing you a chance to respond to what they were bringing. That’s not the case anymore, meaning that we have to be much more laser-focused with our pre-game strategy, and it means that a lot of traits and powers that we’d have used conditionally now just aren’t likely to make it into our lists. Note that if you’re rolling for random Exalted traits for your Greater Daemons, those rolls happen before you make decisions about placing units in Reserves. Army Construction

The Points Changes

Warp Rifts is a powerful rule on the surface, and combos incredibly well with some of the charge bonuses Daemons have access to. With many units having +1 to Charge or access to Charge rerolls of some sort, Daemons will be one of the few armies in the game with reliable deepstrike charges. Bloodthirster • Bloodmaster • Rendmaster • Sacred Executioner • Skullmaster • Bloodletter • Bloodcrusher • Blood Slaughterer • Brass Scorpion • Flesh Hound • Juggernaut • Blood Throne • Skull Cannon • Skull Altar That doesn’t mean you have to run Undivided. Far from it! If you love running your mono-faction Nurgle Daemon, Tzeentch Daemon, Slaanesh Daemon, or Khorne Daemon army, you are more than welcome to do so. You’ll receive the benefit of a more synergistic army, with the buffs you’ve brought benefitting a higher proportion of your army. For example, when a unit like Plague Drones gives wound re-rolls to every Nurgle Daemon unit in your army, you’re incentivized to bring lots of other Nurgle Daemons when you’re bringing Plague Drones. You’re just not punished if you also want to bring a Lord Of Change for some additional ranged damage, or some Seekers to cap objectives.
