About this deal

Enjoy some of our recommended books for younger children about animals, from classics like Dick King-Smith's Sheep Pig to modern favourites like Ed Vere's Mr.

He quite enjoyed the simple language and the funny questions about whether they are a mouse, especially when Max asks a mouse and is told no, the mouse is not a mouse. It was lovely to see Alanna from the Play Team, they do such a wonderful job with the children and have such an important role. I wasn't disappointed though I found it quite odd that he doesn't know what a mouse is as it should be instinctual to know. He sets out to find a mouse to chase, but he doesn't know what one looks like, and he doesn't know all the other creatures cats like to chase either! There's one particular part (no spoilers here - but there's one almost black page, followed by a very colourful couple of pages) that my wee guy loves to read again and again, with excellent opportunities for fun sound effects.

Children are sure to follow along, fully engrossed as they wait to see if Max finally finds that darn mouse. Ed Vere studied fine art at Camberwell College of Art and has been writing and illustrating children's books since 1999. Although this image is quite tiny, I found this particular illustration where he climbs a tree full of birds to inquire abt mice esp cute! One such discussion could be about asking questions when you don't have enough information and another may be about who we can trust to gain information from. But the funniest thing is that I had received an ARC for this book last year but never got around to reading it and it expired.

Ed is also a painter, working from his studio in East London and is represented by galleries in London and Los Angeles. We also supply the children and their carer with care packages of essential and luxury items to try and brighten their day. Not sure just what a mouse looks like, Max interrogates a number of creatures, asking each one whether they are a mouse. format, but in a stealthily remixed way) but from my son's response giving less than 5 stars is not an option. With its gruff hero, vibrant, strong colours, bold design and spare text, this story about looking beyond appearances has a satisfying punchy simplicity and jazzy feel. He won the Highland Children's Book Award in 2007 for his book, The Getaway and was shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal for children's book illustration, recognizing his 2008 picture book Banana. Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. Here's hoping the success of the Max books encourages a reprint, because the copies at my library are falling apart!
