About this deal

I am comparing some of the best headphones in their respective class, which all sound great in their own right.

After having used them mostly for listening to CDs, streamed audio and my own WAV ripped CDs I dare to say that they are natural, analytical and very comfortable. But don’t worry if you process sound through an audio interface – almost any interface with a headphone output will drive them loud enough. I would not use it for outside, or in an environment demanding quiet - but for normal use around the home so far it has been excellent. Just like with all their products, Beyerdynamic are especially proud of the durability of their range. For anyone questioning if the 600 ohm is suddenly competitive with top tier headphones for resolve, it just is not. They do have a tendency to be a little dry and unexciting at first - IMO due to the lack of colouration - but with tubes, or a warm amp, they do come alive and are really very pleasant. If you want natural, open and uncolored sound from a tough set of professional headphones, get a pair for yourself. these headphones definitely have their own fingerprint, and you can hear this very well if you use software like Sonarworks reference.

V shaped, no actually theres are one of the most balanced cans, what your enjoying is a very balanced sound signiture.Detail - The DT880 has decent clarity, but does not approach the detail level of cans like the SRH940. This allows optimum vocal positioning in mixing and ensures every slightest nuance is transparently reproduced. All in all, these will be a great and relatively cheap upgrade if you are using non-studio or non professional audio headphones. Although DT880 can sound ‘good’ with setups like setup like an O2/ODAC or M/M stack, but the beast is unleashed only on OTL: Output transformer less type tube amplifiers. When I first tried the DT880s, I was impressed, but after listening for a while, the shortcomings became more apparent.

A lightweight, low-profile, closed headphone producing a clean and even response from 20 - 18000 Hz. They are supremely comfortable, and for me present a level of comfort that all manufacturers should strive for.It is if anything bass light at normal volumes but with elevated treble from 5-10kHz (spike at 8kHz) that makes most music sound bright and some instruments metallic. I would prefer to pair DT880’s with a OTL tube amp for music listening, then the mids will open out much better and highs much more sweeter and in control.
