After a screening of Galaxy Quest, the 1999 sci-fi spoof which was an unexpected smash, all he can think about are the scenes he was in that have been cut. I first saw him in Truly, Madly, Deeply, which I found so odd and loved so much I dragged friends to see it for a total of three times! By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. External events are thoughtfully contemplated, among them Labour’s election landslide of 1997, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales and the World Trade Center attacks. Rickman studied at art school before going to RADA, and the endpapers of this thick volume show diary pages with illustrations around the page edges.

He rarely opines on these characters, merely listing the people and how the time was spent - so you may think, and be forgiven for doing so, what's the bloody point of all of this? The more that is consumed, ‘the more the tensions appear’ — and what we have in these diaries is a man unwittingly destroying himself.

Paton makes these uncomfortable attempts at witticisms in parentheses on almost every other page, definitely several times in each chapter. From his breakout role in Die Hard to his outstanding, multifaceted performances in the Harry Potter films, Galaxy Quest, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and more, Alan Rickman cemented his legacy as a world-class actor. Huge sigh of relief that these are being published with the approval of not only Alan Rickman's widow but of Rickman himself since he wrote his volumes of diaries with the intention of having them published one day.

Love Island All Stars fans slam Liberty Poole for crying over Mitchel Taylor again despite pair's bitter split: 'They broke up like 10 times!

It could be said that these were private musings and therefore did not need to be full or even positive, but then why publish them? The star's thoughts reveal a man unwilling to suffer fools or mince his words - most of the time Alan Rickman's voice was a purr, but it masked sharp claws . He eats out several times a week, sometimes with colleagues but more often with friends and his partner, Rima Horton. one last great Rickman performance: challenging, uncompromising, utterly unique and truly mesmerising. I also found it odd that this book has an editor (who wrote the introduction), but no real attempt is made to explain what was edited and why.

I would hope he'd know me better and feel like he's reading about an old friend too as well as a father. An active supporter of the Labour Party, Rickman had a social conscience and had a serious side to his nature. Rickman’s writing details the extraordinary and the ordinary in a way that is anecdotal, indiscreet, witty, gossipy and utterly candid. Despite the many doors that Die Hard and Robin Hood opened for him, the films are tetchily referenced. I also enjoyed the entries for Galaxy Quest and A Little Chaos which he directed (script first mentioned in 2001 but not screened until 2014). They are moving because he realizes he’s lived so fast and hard that he’s never had time to look back, to savor it all .
