Except for the tree that says +1 Kodama, the other trees are bonuses multiplied by the Kodama symbols in your Guardian Animal run. e.g. the (Kodama) Water tree counts as 3 water if you pull 3 Kodama symbols in your Guardian Animal Run. Attract one or more Guardian Animals: Add up the amount of suns you have to take one or more Guardian Animal cards visible in the reserve of Guardian Animals, for a total cost equal to or lower than your number of suns. The cost of a Guardian Animal is visible in the right-bottom corner of the card. The card and board art matches seamlessly with the base game and I love the addon to your player board explaining the kodama symbols bonuses. Components are of an equally high standard and having a figure for Onibi chasing you around the circle spreading more fire makes it feel like there is a real battle for the forest. Action : The Spirits of Nature play in turn. If your Help Line shows strictly less than three solitary symbols (not canceled by gregarious symbols), you can then perform 2 different Actions. If your Help Line shows three solitary symbols (not canceled by gregarious symbols), you can then perform only 1 Action. Living forest has multiple paths to victory and quite a few mechanics in play. Having played several times now, I gravitate towards collecting protective trees more than other actions. I like the spatial puzzle element. The permanent and immediate bonuses they offer give an advantage that strengthens as the game goes on. And there’s no downside to planting. They are miniature, natural engines. Guardian Animal cards make up your starting team. Each Animal brings you, with varying degrees of strength, one or more elements: light to attract new animals, shoots to plant protective trees, water to extinguish Onibi's incessant flames, wisdom to advance on the Circle of Spirits, and sacred flowers to awaken Sanki. Note that if any player achieves 12 different Protective trees on their board, 12 Fire tiles in their collection, or 12 Sacred Flowers in the Help Line during Phase 2, the game ends! Final Thoughts!

Put out a fire – Use any water drops collected you can extinguish fire tiles that are on the circular spirit board. When done, these tiles go face down next to your board and contribute towards your target of 12. Each turn has 3 phases and up to 2 actions to perform. Your main task is to choose the winning way! Phase 1: Guardian Animals Take a Fragment Tile – take a Fragment tile from the supply to use in a later Guardian Animal Phase Planting a Protective Tree in a corner triggers an immediate bonus Action. This can only be used once per corner.The Kodama expansion adds a Kodama market and symbols, new trees, new guardian spirits, the Onibi standee, and new element tiles. Mainly, this expansion gives a new use for the pink flower symbol aside from the win condition. Additionally, the new win condition is set to 13, and not 12. Move forward on the circle of spirits. Add up the amount of spirit elements you have and move forward that amount of spaces. This will gain you victory points. Important! A gregarious symbol cancels a solitary symbol. It will therefore be possible to play more than 3 solitary Guardian Animals in the same turn, provided that you have already revealed one or more gregarious Guardian Animals. Note that only the symbol of the solitary Guardian Animal is canceled, the Elements will be taken into account in the Action phase.
