Description

From that point on, Arnold was hooked, and vowed to one day become the best-built man in the world. He wanted do something special, to be recognized as the best. And bodybuilding was the vehicle he planned to use to take him to the top. His workout schedule is fairly exhausting even for those who are really strong and have good cardio. Burn out is very easy. If you are just starting out, and you’re adamant about wanting to train 6 times a week, do 3 or 4 main lifting sessions, combined with some low-intensity cardio on the other 2 or 3 days. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Workout Routine

I think to fully enjoy this book you have to be an aspiring professional bodybuilder. If you're like me and you just work out for general health, whole sections of this book will by dry in the extreme. Arnold dedicates probably half of the book to the history of bodybuilding, to how to compete in bodybuilding, and on and on. It's mind-numbing stuff unless you're into it Oftentimes I’ll go for an easy ride on my bike, with my heart rate floating around 60 percent or so of its maximum.

Caveman711, if this is your first training program, you're overdoing. it. Wildtim is right since overtraining doesnt happen in a week. Its not that the routine is bad, because its not. Its just that your body is probably not ready for something that intense and comprehensive. For a beginner, keep it to 2-3 exercises with 3 sets of 8-12 reps for each major muscle group twice a week. Work in minor muscle groups with 1-2 exercises of 2 sets of 8-12. The thing is about this routine that doesnt fit very well with a beginner is the fact that there is only one rest day during the week. I'm not saying its not possible to train 6 days a week 6 hours a day, because it is. the difference between athletes that can do that and beginners is that they worked their way up to that level of intensity. Simply put, this routine is too intense. Your muscles dont need that much stimulation to grow. It's as if, after trying to play nice for two-and-a-half books, he finally said, "Basta! Forget you Schlappschwanzes! I'm going to pump some iron." The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding From elite bodybuilding competitors to gymnasts, from golfers to fitness gurus, anyone who works out with weights must own this book—a book that only Arnold Schwarzenegger could write, a book that has earned its reputation as “the bible of bodybuilding.”That summer the bodybuilders took me on as their protege. They put me through a series of exercises, which we did together beside a lake near Graz, my hometown in Austria. We worked without weights. We did chin-ups on the branches of trees. We held each other’s legs and did handstand push-ups. Leg raises, sit-ups, twists, and squats were all included in a simple routine to get our bodies tuned and ready for the gym.”

When I was training to win my Mr. Olympia titles and was lifting enormous weights every day in the gym, it was as if I were living on a giant planet like Jupiter instead of the Earth. Lifting weights six days a week doesn’t leave a lot of room for cardio, unless you’re willing to train twice a day, which isn’t an option for most people. Next Arnold goes through a basic training routine and some intensity boosting techniques like super-setting, forced reps, and slow negatives.Plus, all the features that made this book a classic are still here. You'll find every facet of bodybuilding, from the history of the sport to a complete analysis of the muscles in the body, including Arnold's tips on how to strengthen, sculpt, and define each and every muscle to create the ultimate balanced physique. Now, fifteen fantastic years after that first publication, Arnold is ready to teach and motivate a new generation of athletes with this fully updated and revised "New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding."
