The witch is probably living on Witch Mountain, from which no explorer has ever returned. So Felix works through officials channels first -- but official channels move ex-tr-em-el-y s-l-o-w-l-y and his requests for justice get bandied from one bureaucrat to another. Not one to learn from past experience, Alex started the Legal Practice Course in London. There she met some great people and had a lot of fun messing about during lessons that were clearly meant to be extremely solemn affairs. Thankfully, she dropped out just before the point where all students must submit to the personality-removing process that is a compulsory part of being an esteemed member of the legal profession. As well as the (excellent) characters I also liked the many great adventures they went on and how they thought of ways to get out of the problems they got into, by using the knowledge they were gifted from their parents.

Except it's not unoccupied, of course. Gideon Smythe, son of the leader of the Jungle Cats Explorers Club, is on board and quite cross they've stolen his Club's dirigible, not to mention failed to realize what a great Picnic Master he is. Join Stella Starflake Pearl and her three fellow explorers as they trek across the snowy Icelands and come face-to-face with frost fairies, snow queens, outlaw hideouts, unicorns, pygmy dinosaurs and carnivorous cabbages . . .This book was absolutely amazing! It shows the power of friendship! I also loved the twists and turns in the book! It sounded like a respectable and worthy enough death for an explorer – tumbling from an ice bridge to be impaled upon a mammoth tusk – but Stella really, really didn’t want that to happen, just the same… What follows is a series of adventures on many levels. The explorers find out about this land, their new discoveries and plenty of mysteries. However, they also find out about themselves in many ways. Justice, feminism, morals – there’s a lot here for adults to and children will enjoy finding out about some serious issues while going on one brilliant adventure. It’s a good book to start many a conversation. Above all however, it’s a novel for having fun, exploring, going on one brilliant adventure and experiencing the freedom and fun that goes with that. She soon finds herself on an expedition to find the coldest part of the Icelands. But it doesn’t go to plan, as she and her fellow junior adventurers get separated from the group and have to find their way across the Icelands together. While the Icelands is full of incredible places and creatures to discover, it’s equally full of danger. A year ago, I fell in love with the first volume of The Polar Bear Explorer's Club and its enchanting world. This second book is sadly a bit of a disappointment: the story is not bad, far from it, the world is still interesting but the book has nothing really new to offer.

I thought the Polar Bear Explorers Club was great. It was filled with magic and fun and was always exciting! The Forbidden Expedition is a worthy sequel to the first Polar Bear Explorers Club book, featuring favorite characters, quirky adventures with a hint of danger, and entertaining plot twists. If you’re looking for a good middle grade fantasy series with fun quests and lots of imagination, these might be the books for you.Become a Faber Member for free and receive curated book recommendations, special competitions and exclusive discounts. Neither is a focus, however. A multiple prize-winning hit in Wegelius’s native Sweden, this extraordinary book acquires a passport full of stamps – Portugal, Egypt, India, Greece – as it masterfully juggles skulduggery and malaria, accordion-making and aeronautics, fado and pastries, police corruption and at least two love stories. To say anything more would spoil what is a rare treat: a book you want to thrust into the hands of children and adults alike. Jennifer Bell has built a wonderful new world in which readers can immerse themselves, in this pacey, magical adventure. There are twists and turns, new creatures and strange, 'uncommon' objects to discover around every street corner.
