We must stress the importance that this abrading process actually results in a profiled surface that can be seen by eye and felt by fingertips. Trying to achieve such a surface onto stainless steel will require extensive effort and it must be noted that this will still not ultimately equal product performance which would be achieved by the blast cleaning method referenced above. Mechanical strain may cause visible marks on the painted surface. This is a typical product feature of matt paints; however, it does not affect the functionality of the product Laying down sheets around the area will catch any dirt, soot, and ash deposits as you clean the surface prior to painting, protecting your carpets or wood floors. Mask areas with tape that you don't want to be painted, and then prepare the surface of your fire surround depending on the substrate: The variable porous structure of the surface to be painted and moisture and temperature variations during paint application and drying may cause diversity of colour

The surface should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased using Rust-Oleum Pre-Paint Cleaner, followed by hand or machine abrasion to impart a scratch pattern to the surface. Use non-metallic abrasives, bonded fibre machine or hand abrasive pads - Do not use high speed rotational sanders. PaintWell increased its Industrial Paints offering with the acquisition of Promain UK Limited, the preferred UK distributor for many of the world’s leading paint and surface coatings manufacturers.Tikkurila Muuri is a heat-resistant breathable paint recommended for use on firewalls, fireplaces and similar interior wall surfaces where the surface temperature may rise above normal.

Yes the smell most likely is the paint. From what you have said the fire has not been installed correctly in the space it is in and is getting the surrounding walls and surfaces too hot, this is also the most likely cause of the yellow blistering of your first paint (not mould). The fire is heating up the painted surfaces and causing them to discolour (yellowing) and then getting so hot the paint is blistering. The new paint you’ve used is obviously suffering from the same but the smell most likely will be because the paint is newer and being mould resistant probably has some additional contents to combat mould that may be giving off the smell under extreme heat. Self-priming, Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C should not be applied on primers or coatings, which are not heat resistant.

Opening Hours:

De-rust according the manufacturer's instructions - usually through mechanical or blast cleaning as hand washing will not clean the surface sufficiently. The paint products offered here will not provide any increase in protection or resistance to the surfaces they are applied to. They simply provide a decorative finish that can withstand high temperatures that normal paints would not be able to tolerate. Using a normal paint to decorate these kinds of areas is not recommended as it can result in discolouration, failure by flaking/peeling/blistering, odours being omitted, and potentially creating a fire hazard.

There's so much choice out there when it comes to paint and it can be difficult finding the right colour and finish for your home. There's also a whole range of brands to choose from including Dulux paint, Farrow & Ball colours, Valspar and our own GoodHome range. A new type of heatproof paint for fireplaces and firewalls exposed to higher-than-normal temperatures. Muuri ensures a breathable surface that is heat resistant up to 300°C (in standard white) and 180°C (in its 8 tinted colours), protecting the walls surrounding your fireplace or stove with a striking finish. Practical consumption depends on many factors such as porosity and roughness of the substrate and material losses during application. Blast cleaning to achieve an appropriate surface profile is the best method of preparation for stainless steel, however as Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is for general/consumer use and not professional or industrial applications we can assume that in the majority of instances blast cleaning will not be achievable. The principle of requiring a profiled surface to assist in the adhesion of the paint system remains, and so preparation advice for smaller projects that still wish to attempt it would be as follows; Once dry, the surface should now be prepared to paint over with a suitable topcoat. If your fireplace still functions then you will require a heat-resistant primer and topcoat, such as Tikkurila Murri. If necessary, clean the surfaces with a dry brush, mop or dust cloth after a minimum of one month after coating Your fireplace surround will be the centrepiece of the room, but it doesn't have to stay exactly the same colour as when you first moved into your home. Stoves and open fires are messy by nature and will mark the surrounding wall with dirt and soot deposits. Repaint your fireplace surround to match your existing decor and interior design - or contrast to make it really stand out. Non-functioning fireplaces – like those with tiles where the hearth would normally be – can be decorated using a non-heat resistant paint such as Bradite One Can. Available at Rawlins Paints in 2,400+ colours, with a choice of an eggshell or matt finish. Can I use normal paint behind a wood burning stove? Coverage is affected by the roughness and porosity of the surface as well as the application method and conditions

Cover surfaces that are not to be treated, such as windows, natural stone or clinker-tiled surfaces and metal surfaces It is also suitable for surfaces previously painted with lime, lime cement, cement and silicate paints.Due to its expert technical knowledge of the technologies and materials available across the industry, Promain has a reputation for outstanding service among its trade and retail customers. Remove dirt, grease, oil, loose rust and all other surface contaminants by appropriate means. Sand intact coatings to roughen the surface slightly. The surface must be clean and dry during application. It is recommended to wait for at least two weeks before the treated surfaces are put into use to ensure the product reaches the heat durability requirements Data sheet Manufacturer Tikkurila For Use By Consumer Use Interior / Exterior Use Interior Use For Use On Concrete Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C, heat resistant coatings based on a silicone modified alkyd resin.
