This is similar to “muscle memory” in sports. When you begin to learn something like hitting a ball, you have to think about all the things involved. As we practise and repeat it, the act of hitting the ball becomes a single chunk. So we can just focus on one step – one chunk – instead all the steps involved. In fact, focusing on all the little steps causes us to overthink and is more likely to lead to “choking”. The difference between creative scientists and technically-competent but non-imaginative ones is their breadth of interest. Ways I incorporated this was by doing what I didn't like to do for 10 minutes every morning for me that is household tasks. So everymorning I clean, iron or whatever I have to do in the house for 10 minutes, making my myself less stressed and letting most of my energy shift towards other things throughout the day leaving my zombies happy and pain free.

Despite the title of the book, most of the advice here is appropriate for just about any subject. It is especially appropriate for subjects with concepts that might be difficult to grasp.
