It’s a feeling that’s hard to explain but let’s just say, you feel guilty for reading this and will want to read a book to cleanse yourself because it’s that grimy and obscenely sexual.

Despite the protagonist being quite anti-social he tolerates Helen’s presence in his life even coming to enjoy her company. Morrison doesn’t hold back from the messy details in any way, so this isn’t a book I’d recommend to anyone who isn’t already accustomed to extreme horror. the mc is obviously very disgruntled and grossed out by the fact that he’s actually relating to another human being and to his absolute horror, he actually starts to like her, in his own sociopathic way. Even though it deals with extremely sensitive topics, this wasn’t anything I expected at all that ended up being a solid read.Though it is a feeling surely everybody can understand to a certain extent, particularly the reader who grabbed this book, I’m not stating this so you’d think that the author uses that to create a sense of companionship or for the reader to be able to relate, to understand this listless figure. I see a lot of people saying Morrison’s writing is brilliant and unique because all of this is intended as satire, and maybe that’s true and I’m the one who’s missing something here, but either way, Dead Inside didn’t work for me, and not for the reasons I expected. I'm putting this whole review in spoiler tags, I didn't really think of what could be a spoiler or not while writing it though I think no spoiler I give can spoil your read nor prepare you for what you are about to read. The first thing to know is that this is a brutally descriptive story about the relationship between a necrophiliac and a cannibal.

I made a lot of faces while reading this book and honestly, it totally reminded me of the SAW movie franchise. And it is indeed possible to see these as victimless crimes since there is no legal entity, no pain, no trauma inflicted. SO, the main character in this book conveniently works as a security guard at a hospital, because obviously it’s the perfect place for him to indulge in all his fucked up desires. the mc caught Helen “in the act” and the whole situation was obviously absurdly funny to me once again.

So if you’re looking for a Bonnie and Clyde or Mickey and Mallory kind of wild romance– this is not where you will find it. I’m not saying I needed him to feel guilty or be less of a “monster”, I just needed him to stop devoting his entire life to impressing 14-year-old white boys on reddit. In this bleak and disturbingly erotic debut novel, iconoclast Chandler Morrison provides readers with a dark exploration of the nature of death, individuality, and generational identity. They have a conversation while Helen is consuming a dead baby and he tells her that he isn’t going to tell anyone about her activities if she keeps his own a secret and this act forges a bond between the pair.If anything on this list triggers you or would make you feel uncomfortable at all, whatever you do, please do not read this book. In saying all that and with the writing being the only saving grace in my opinion I am definitely interested in reading more from Morrison, hopefully something with different subject matter. i’ve never been any kind of athlete or anything, but am i seriously the only person who realizes that infants are the perfect punting shape? Okay so, never, ever, in my life have I read anything so vile, disturbing, sickening, grotesque, appalling. about two people way off in the darkened shadows at the very edge of societal norms coming together to change each other for the.

Whether it is a writing on the philosophy of physics, a bleak and joyless monologue on existentialism or something from the protagonist about his preference for coupling with cadavers rather than living flesh, I demand to be plucked outta my mind and transported along on the author's ship-of-the-imagination.When the two of them meet, they embark on a journey of self-discovery as they shatter societal norms while engaging in destructive and abhorrent behavior. First let me start my review by saying to check the trigger warnings before reading this book and it is very dark and contains themes like necrophilia so please be aware of that when reading this book and my review as I will be discussing it.
