About this deal

It could have been 200 pages shorter if Yinka had acted like the 30 year old woman she is instead of lying all the time. brilliantly subverts the traditional romantic comedy with an unconventional heroine who bravely asks the questions we all have about love. I also appreciated some highlighting of Black conundrums such as weave vs natural hair and issues such as colourism. I think for Nana, Michaela Coel because Michaela is like her own person, and I think she would do a great job bringing out Nana’s effortless and cool, and she’s quite laid back as well. i love reading about messy, imperfect women of colour trying their absolute best (and plummeting to their absolute worst before actualizing the "best") - and being all the more sincere and authentic for it.

If there were a prize simply for the best title of a novel coming in 2022, the irresistible Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? In the end with a little bit of help from her friends, God, and her therapist, she finds her way back to herself and it’s a beautiful and exciting journey to watch. The embarrassing events Yinka faces, plus the cultural and faith aspects of her life, meant I quickly connected with her character. You know there are those books where you creep back to read just one more chapter because the characters are so engaging and the plot is so involving you can’t bear to be parted ? It’s about rediscovering who you are and refusing to settle for a pale imitation of your life, sticking to your principles, and putting in the work to discover who you are and what it is you want.

My thanks to Lou Nyuar at the publisher for sending me the review copy and inviting me to take part in the blog tour, which runs until 6 April. And I knew that like many others who long to find love and settle down, she doubted whether this would ever happen to her.Although this book will be loved by everyone that reads it I really hope as many teenagers and young adults read it so they can learn from Yinka and her experience and finding your place in the world without adding the pressures from society. This universal story of a young woman coming into her own contains many elements of Nigerian culture .

The novel revolves around Yinka; a British-Nigerian Oxford graduate who is being pressured into getting married. Blackburn's comical debut chronicles a Nigerian British woman's quest to find a date for her cousin's wedding. If she thought her mum and Aunties were laser focused before, now they are hyper determined and trying to set up Yinka with any man they know. It is forbidden to copy anything for publication elsewhere without written permission from the copyright holder. And that’s when the real work began, because no longer could I faff about wasting precious time editing a sentence. Ronke Adekoluejo does a great job delivering the emotions and accents needed to create a lovely listening experience.
