Sometimes, that smell inspires me to bundle little girls into winter coats and froggie boots and take a stroll through the neighborhood, where forsythia buds stud certain lucky branches and the puddles look blue in the morning light. I review classic literature, poetry, nonfiction, fantasy, picture books—children's books luminous with grace and beauty. I'm not sure what triggered it but I had this vivid memory of me at my old library reading these books. The stories are simple (and perhaps not so special in the long run), but combined with the illustrations they create this warm-hearted and cozy little world.

A love of cooking goes hand in hand with the many fun feasts, picnics, and festivals that go on in Brambly Hedge.I like this collection because the pictures are large, and it includes all 8 of the stories, some of which I hadn’t been able to access before. They have taken these mice into their hearts and adopted them as their own—the best seal of approval they can give. The first four episodes were animated by Cosgrove Hall Films, while the later four were animated by the then-newly formed HOT Animation. Barklem illustrates the stories in Potter-esque watercolors, complete with cutaways that show the mices’ homes in detail: these were easily our favorite pages, and we took our time poring over them (and wishing that we were smaller and lived in tree stumps). The author of the blog had grown up reading these stories and was very excited about the prospect of sharing them with her own child.

Het is mooi hoe de natuur tot in de kleinste details klopt en die dwarsdoorsnedes van de muizenhuizen zijn geweldig om te bekijken, ik weet nog zo goed hoe geweldig mijn eigen kinderen het vonden om al die gangetjes en trappetjes met hun vinger te ontdekken. The episode "Winter Story" was premiered instead of the episode based on the first book "Spring Story".
