About this deal

For readers who already have the original S12, there is probably no value-add to get the S12 Pro, since the differences are miniscule, and mostly have to do with aesthetics and the modular cable. Would raising the subass EQ up a bit on the S12 pretty much exemplify the same sound signature on the Z12 would you say? LETSHUOER says the Pro version have a different color, an updated nozzle filter, and a cable with swappable modules. The S12 Pro that is based on the original S12 comes now with some updates like a new detachable cable with “swappable headphone plugs”, a new color and some minor tunings of the sound.

The Salnotes Zero has a bit more natural timbre, in general, most single DDs (like the Zero) beat planars in timbral accuracy. The S12 Pro may be a tinge bright for treble-sensitive folk, and vocal and midrange lovers might need to consider alternatives due to a depression in the lower mids. S12 is known for its tight, punchy bass response with clear midrange and nicely-detailed treble response.

There is only one thing you could get for your Letshuoer S12 Pro: a good source like a DAC/AMP or a DAP, I’d suggest something small and simple like the KA5, iBasso’s DC04 Pro or ddHiFi TC44C. In terms of sound performance, the structural design of the front and rear acoustic chambers effectively discharges pressure inside the chassis, resulting in a more natural sound. My favorite track, "Porco Rosso" by Joe Hisaishi, was delivered so beautifully it moved me and brought a smile to my face after a long time. I am in no way, shape, or form affiliated with the brands I review and do not give out preview privileges.

A well burned in Z12 will assuredly satisfy the need for rich, highly textured and dense Bass – the Mid-Bass especially being very solid and vibrant.

While the shells of the S12 Pro look like the spitting image of the original S12, they come in an aerospace blue hue, which is a far cry from their predecessor’s dull gray color. The shells are fashioned from a five-axis CNC (computer numerical control) process, with a small L and R circle on the housings denoting the left and right sides respectively.

It was somewhat hilarious – normally on Bass focused IEMs I have used before, the Mid-Bass would be the one to dominate (as observed with most dynamic drivers), but for Z12 it is the other way round. Its emphasis is presented cleanly, providing a strong body of frequency content that makes each mix feel complete. Frankly for me, a self-styled Diffused Field Neutral junkie, Z12 would appear a bit overbearing to my senses. The S12 Pro still suffers from sibilance but is still tolerable and shouting isn’t much of a problem. The LETSHUOER S12 PRO has a Bright sound signature that presents a highly revealing sound, allowing you to hear every detail in the music. I want to clarify that all the thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own, and I have not received any sponsorship or incentive to promote or favor this IEM in any way.
