In the first installment of manga-ka Hirokazu Hikawa’s manga strip that appears in Kirby Manga Mania, Dream Land’s King Dedede is hosting a picnic feast beneath the cherry blossom trees when Kirby inhales everyone’s food, gets drunk—or, um, “loopy”, I guess, given that the bottle he gulps down is labeled “Loopy Juice”—and proceeds to wreck the party, inhaling several picnic-goers, cornering King Dedede to give him heartfelt repetitive advice, badly singing karaoke, flipping a table, and ultimately collapsing into unconsciousness. I'm not really sure how I want to rate Manga (I wasn't even sure if I wanted to count it towards my goal, but I've been in a reading slump and this felt approachable). The manga was later published as a "best-of" collection with new chapters, which was published in English as Kirby Manga Mania by Viz Media.

Reviewers have mostly criticized the manga for its repetitiveness, characterization, and lack of character development and plot, with its fast-paced slapstick comedy being attributed to its target audience of children. But, he mishears this and thinks he needs someone to be kind to him, so he goes to see Kirby, who blatantly ignores the fact that this talking toy not only looks just like his frenemy, but also that it's clearly begging him for help. Presumably, this release would have covered the complete series starting with the first 1995 volume, if it had happened. Animal Crossing: Read the gag-filled adventures of four goofy residents living among the Animal Crossing: New Horizons characters! It was a fun time don’t get me wrong but it was hard giving Kirby a voice in your head when in the video games he doesn’t actually speak and just makes sounds.

While making my way through the first volume, I was surprised to see Kirby’s antagonistic dynamic with King Dedede gradually shift from a SpongeBob-and-Squidward playfulness to Kirby going full wildcard like Charlie in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Although this manga is considered non-canon amongst Kirby fans, I’d argue that Kirby lore benefits from this wacky thing’s existence. The series would later be published as a "best-of" collection, featuring a selection of chapters that Hikawa considers the best, in addition to bonus comics.Fans of all ages can enjoy this collection of classic Kirby comics—just take a deep breath and hop on in!

Not_Soos As great as Animal Crossing is I don’t think it could be enough of “heavy hitter” to carry a new console launch. Even devoid of context, he evokes a gentle possibility that only good things will happen to him and his friends, the details of which are almost all up to you and your daydreams. Manga is all the rage in middle school right now and I am vetting some choices for a Manga book club. The little pink puffy gumball who’s brain works at a million miles an hour and in absolute chaos is back for a supposed ‘best of’ manga collection. He shows up, starts eating everything acts obnoxiously confused as to why people are not happy with this, starts licking Dedede to convince him to let him stay at the picnic, and then gets wasted (they say "loopy," but anyone over the age of 12 should know what's really happening).the citizens of Dream Land decide they’re tired of King Dedede and hold an election for a new king, with Kirby as one of the four candidates. It was published in English as Kirby Manga Mania by Viz Media, with the first volume being published on June 8, 2021. King Dedede doesn’t take kindly to Kirby crashing his picnic, leading him to shoo away Kirby by chucking whatever item is closest at Kirby’s malleable dome. Dedede gets turned into a toy after denying a powerful wizard shelter in his castle during a blizzard. Even though the manga is black and white, Hikawa does a masterful job at drawing the sharp contrast between Kirby’s cutesy sleeping self and the menacing crackle of kinetic energy collapsing onto itself inside the little doughboy.

Now, my brother tells me that this is likely a classic "gag" manga, but I'll be honest, if this is what goes for a gag in Japan, then I don't want to read any more. Each of the volume’s 11 short stories features Kirby and Dedede, generally with at least one other name character among the interchangeable animals and figures that make up the population of the Dream Land setting. In the Kirby video game franchise, which kicked off in 1992 with Kirby’s Dream Land, the character is an adorable pink sphere of a hero, using his ability to inhale enemies and objects and either spit them out as projectiles or gain special powers through his “copy ability” to defend his home world from various threats and villains.

Like the Mario of Mario Manga Madness, the Kirby of Kirby Manga Madness is a different one than the one readers may think they know, but that doesn’t mean he’s not worth spending time with. Yet, the shock soon fades and you start to see what’s going on with the goofiness, the ephemerality, the playfulness of it all: The Kirby of Kirby of the Stars: Dedede de Pupupu na Monogatari, published from 1995 to 2006 in CoroCoroComic, is more or less the Kirby of the internet, today. My favorites were the toy king "episode" - it's like Beauty and the Beast - but Kirby style and the game of life "episode" - think the classic game, but with a dark twist. In most of the strips, Dedede is more-or-less minding his own business as he was in the initial one with the picnic—perhaps he’s readying his castle for an upcoming typhoon, or playing with his toy robot pet—when Kirby enters the picture, generally causing huge problems for Dedede.
