About this deal

Monday, September 28 - the day of the incident - was Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism, but police later said they didn't think anyone was 'deliberately' targeted. Tabak was found guilty of the murder of Joanna Yeates and jailed for life, with a minimum term of 20 years. A trail of blood leading up to his car was found by police, and was one of the first indications foul play was involved. Yeates was buried on 11 February; approximately 300 people attended the service, which was led by vicar Peter Gilks.

Tabak waited until the last possible moment – when he was in the witness box – to offer his version of events. He cited several examples of headlines and stories that had been published, including a headline in The Sun describing Jefferies– a former schoolmaster at Clifton College– as weird, posh, lewd and creepy; a story from the Daily Express quoting unnamed former pupils referring to him as ".He claims Yeates invited him into her flat and made a flirty remark as they chatted in the kitchen, which encouraged him to make a pass at her. A spokesman for Channel 5 said: "This two-part documentary tells the definitive story of landscape architect Joanna Yeates' tragic murder and the subsequent hunt for her killer. At such times the mind plays tricks, and one starts to believe that perhaps one is a criminal without knowing it and that, as in some Kafkaesque nightmare, guilt has been pre-ordained and the sentence is inescapable. It can only be hoped that one day someone, or something, can throw some light on the killers who remain at large.

But a jury of seven men and five woman unanimously convicted her of murder after a trial at Bristol Crown Court. After killing Yeates, Tabak attempted to cast suspicion for the murder onto Jefferies after watching a news broadcast about the case while spending the New Year with relatives in the Netherlands. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a murder investigation has been launched following the incident in the Hayes Close area of Lawrence Hill. Media attention at the time centred on the filming of a re-enactment of her disappearance for the BBC's programme Crimewatch. Watts' funeral took place at St Ambrose Church in Whitehall, Bristol, on 17 April 2015 and was described by her family as "an occasion to celebrate Becky's life".

The prison was closed and left to rot, like the bodies of those who met a grisly end above the gatehouse. In his defence, Tabak claimed that the killing had not been sexually motivated, [118] [119] and told the court that he had killed Yeates while trying to silence her after she screamed when he tried to kiss her. Police said in a statement last night that relatives of the young man will be supported by specially trained officers. Canynge Road was closed by police while scaffolding was constructed around Yeates's home; [87] and officers sealed off Tabak's adjacent flat. Four men were sentenced in April 21 at Bristol Crown Court after being convicted in connection with the incident.

There is also the possibility that something may have happened after Tabak carried Yeates's body back to his own flat. The incident happened outside a takeaway in Wells Road, near to the junction with Broad Walk, in Knowle, on August 8 at 11pm. Vincent Tabak, a 32-year-old Dutch architectural engineer and the occupant of a third flat in the building, was arrested on 20 January 2011. Matthews insisted the killing took place while Hoare was in the garden, and that she was not involved. Criminology professor David Wilson commented on the resonance of the murder case with the national news media: "The British public loves a whodunnit .A breakthrough led investigators to believe that Yeates's body might have been transported in a large holdall or suitcase. To the torment of her loved ones, however, the truth about exactly what happened on the night of 17 December last year in Flat one, 44 Canynge Road, Bristol, may never be known.

One of them - Steven Tomlinson, 32, of Norton Farm Road, Henbury - was before Bristol magistrates charged with possessing a large knife in Kingswood on December 14.Becky Watts was last seen at home in St George, Bristol, on the morning of 19 February 2015 by her step-mother Anjie Galsworthy, a multiple sclerosis sufferer, who left the house at around 11:15 A.
