The arrival of Hugh and his intended wife, Michelle, giving rise to concerns she poses as the prospective chateline, and the ignorance she faces, Michelle deals with it with grace and aplomb whilst Daniel is forced to reconsider the nature of his relationship with Neil. I was about two-thirds through the book when I figured out both the murder and the motive, well ahead of the conclusion being reached on the page, for a change. James Parish to recognize and pay reparations for the centuries of harm to Afro-descendants rooted in slavery and colonialism. You get an inkling that Coles sees himself as a chronicler of the quirks of English parish life, and sticks on the detection stuff as a way to do so. This is my first taste of but the 2nd in the series written by the well known Richard Coles, once a member of the Communards who went on to become a member of the C of E clergy, it features his detective Canon Daniel Clement.

I love the little village setting and the characters or nosy neighbours this brings with small settings.Sub-inspector Ombir Singh investigates, tries to prevent mob justice and, with his limited resources, digs to the core of a crime with long tendrils and dark origins. CANON Daniel Clement, Richard Coles’s clerical detective, is back ( Books, 24 June 2022), and life is anything but peaceful. In its favour, the book tackles big subjects such as bereavement and forgiveness – after a difficult visit, in the study the “grief was still faintly there, like smoked cigarettes”.

According to the experts, federal environmental regulations have failed to protect people residing in “Cancer Alley”. The second murder mystery novel in the Canon Clement series, which I found it to be just as engaging and amusing as the previous one. I just love the humour, the woven strands of Rectory life, seasonal country life, crime, friendship and puppies… really, what more could anyone ask for?Gloucestershire, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1988 These Church of England burial records for the years 1813–1988 come from parishes throughout Gloucestershire, England. And yet… there was a lot I felt uncomfortable about (some of which was also an issue in the first book, some of which was new). An investigation is carried out for the Procurator Fiscal who receives a full report into the death. The descriptions of the upper crust of the community…the elite and then all those that function within two communities and two churches in modern times. Richard Coles' writing style is engaging and descriptive, painting a vivid picture of the charming village and its colorful inhabitants.

Daniel encounters a neighbouring cleric who could not be more different; no dog collar, a dysfunctional family and rather stereotypical VW camper van. From the outset, it becomes evident that Daniel and Chris hold contrasting views on how their faith should be shared among their parishioners.Coles masterfully weaves together multiple storylines, creating a complex web of intrigue that keeps the reader engaged throughout. I enjoyed the first in the series and started this second full of confidence that I’d feel the same again. But then Daniel finds himself with another murder on his hands, this time a horrifying ritualistic killing. The Diocese of Gloucester is looking for two creative, flexible and holistic thinkers who care passionately about nurturing leaders who will share the good news of Jesus Christ and make disciples in all our varied contexts.
