About this deal

The most obvious question when comparing the Oculus Quest models is how big are the games. We’ll focus on the official Oculus store titles, which are generally a higher file size than anything found on SideQuest.

Oculus Quest 2 review | TechRadar

And while VR is often accused of being a solitary affair, Oculus has made strong efforts to make using Quest 2 in a group accessible. Like the original Quest, you can use the Google Chromecast screen sharing function within the Quest 2’s menu to allow someone not wearing the headset to watch what you’re up to on a second display like a smartphone or TV. Some games even actively encourage it, with one player taking charge of a role in the real world, while another navigates the VR world presented in the headset. Oculus Quest 2: Software and apps But Quest 2 goes beyond games, of course. VR can be educational – there are applications talking you through historical moments, such as a touching look at the life of Anne Frank, and one letting you visit the Chernobyl disaster zone. But there are some significant changes that would make an upgrade well worth it if you currently already have the original Quest and you’re considering the Quest 2. The new model offers a more responsive experience overall, thanks to improved RAM and chip specs. It also has a higher resolution display, which is a whole 50% sharper than its predecessor. Combined, these upgrades make the Oculus Quest 2 experience even more seamless and immersive. One thing that standalone VR still hasn’t quite mastered is battery life. The Quest 2 will run for between two and three hours and takes two-and-a-half hours to charge from empty, which is only a little better than the Quest. It’s a good thing VR gaming isn’t the sort of thing you want to do for long periods at a time.

The headset that will take VR mainstream

If you plan on playing strictly games on your headset, the 128 GB version is probably fine for you. Most games are under 3 GB per game so far. Even if you have the biggest known game, The Walking Dead, you can still load about 15 other titles without worry. This is more than most people will actively play at one time. We can expect that game sizes will increase in the future as developers take advantage of the extra power in the Quest 2 headset. Even so, we think that 128 GB is enough space for most. META QUEST IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE https://www.oculus.com/quest-2/removable-facial-interface-alert. Overall, the Oculus Quest 2 game sizes are a bit larger than the original Quest. This makes sense, since the new Snapdragon XR2 processor handle more sophisticated shaders and textures. Whether games sizes are TOO big depends greatly on your usage habbits. Are there any other differences between the 64, 128 and 256 GB Oculus Quest 2?

The Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is the second version of the Quest headset range. It’s similar to the original Oculus Quest in that it’s a battery-powered, standalone headset that allows you to freely roam around your physical and digital play spaces without fear of tripping over a wire. So now that you know the facts, which size of Oculus Quest 2 between the 64 vs 128 vs 256 GB do you need? Internally, you can NOT replace the hard drive in the Quest 2 later. The version you buy on day one is the storage size you will have embedded forever. It’s a wondrous experience losing yourself in the Quest 2, letting you really live within and feel connected to the games that you play. But the crucial question is… can you stomach it? Some have expressed concerns about Facebook’s use of data, while those without Facebook accounts may be reluctant to create one just to enjoy VR. At the end of the day, though, many people use Facebook regularly and will appreciate the simplicity of a single account for multiple services.Other than hard drive storage size, there is no difference between these three versions of the Quest 2. All other features are the exact same. Can you upgrade the Quest 2 storage later? If you want to restore your save game, simply reinstall your game and then follow the instructions below: What's more, getting a good, tight fit to ensure the screen appears as clear as possible can be claustrophobic and a little uncomfortable. These base-level issues remain unsolved; for a new generation of hardware, we’d have liked to have seen a wider array of brand-new software to go with it, too.

Oculus Quest 2 review: The only VR headset you need | Expert

If you plan on loading media files such as movies, music, or phones on to the headset, then give the 256 GB some series consideration. Movie files in particular can be between 2-10 GB per file, which will use up your space in a hurry. This is the number one reason we would recommend the Quest 2 with more space. With such a big difference in hard drive size, should you buy the bigger model? Or, should you put your extra money towards an upgraded elite strap or other Oculus Quest 2 accessories? Regardless, the Quest 2 is as comfortable as a VR headset can feasibly be and I found that keeping it in a comfortable position was a simpler task – the reduced weight certainly helps here. The face foam is a little softer, and a little deeper too, although it will still imprint on your face over time. Before I continue, it’s worth talking about Facebook, Oculus’ parent company. By October 2020, new Oculus users will have to log in to their device using a Facebook account, rather than an Oculus one. Existing Oculus account holders can choose to swap to Facebook (or not) until January 2023, at which point it will happen automatically.

Customer reviews

The first Oculus Quest made use of dual 1440 x 1600 resolution OLED displays (one for each eye), but the Quest 2 opts for a single LCD panel, split so as to display an 1832 x 1920 pixel resolution per eye. That’s about 50 percent sharper than the original, and while we’d usually prefer the richness of an OLED display, we hardly missed it here. LCD also opens up an improved refresh rate of 90Hz to developers, compared to the original Quest’s 72Hz - with an experimental feature bumping it up to 120Hz. Where supported, it will be a notably smoother experience. With the greater power of a PC at hand, the Quest is capable of taking advantage of some really impressive adventures, such as the god-stomping Asgard’s Wrath and mind-blowing Lone Echo 2. These are high-end VR adventures with graphical fidelity leagues ahead of the majority of Quest 2’s mobile apps and should be taken advantage of if possible. With a bit of tinkering, you can get the Quest 2 to play VR apps from other stores too, such as Steam VR’s highlight Half Life: Alyx. But, the potential is there for word of mouth to spread, for individuals to try a Go on in a store (Best Buy in the US is setting up in-store Oculus Go demo stations) and think, ‘Yes, this is something I can get into’, for parents and peers to buy one as a gift for birthdays or Christmas for less than the price of other headsets.
