There's also a matte finish to reduce glare which we like. The other specs you'll want to know about are the 144Hz maximum refresh rate, the High Dynamic Range (VESA Display HDR600), AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support, and the 1 ms (MPRT) response time. The benefits of this were clear for dark scenes, such as the shadowy caves of Horizon Zero Dawn and the gloomy planets of Returnal, where the Neo G7 was able to display more detail than your average monitor. In what probably won’t come as a surprise, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 is one of the heaviest monitors I’ve ever used, hitting the scales at 9.2kg without the stand. I was still able to carry it to and from my desk with relative ease, but it’s certainly going to be a hassle if you ever move home. Unlike most gaming monitors, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (2023) is able to connect to the internet and run streaming applications without the need to be connected to an external device such as a PC. That’s all thanks to the Tizen operating system that’s pre-installed onto the monitor. Additionally the Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimizing distractions during the most intense gaming sessions and letting the large screen deliver details while keeping the player focused on the game and the stunning visual performance.
The Odyssey Neo G7, is a great monitor for any gaming platform – using DisplayPort or HDMI connection to hook it up to the users’ Gaming rig or switch to HDMI 2.1 to play on their latest game console. Another option is to play a mobile game on a larger 43” screen through the built-in WIFI/Bluetooth or just connect a controller to enjoy a game in the cloud without even having a console. Thanks to the Mini LED display technology, Samsung has also been able to reach a high peak brightness of 490 nits for SDR content. This is significantly brighter than the claimed 250-nit figure of the Samsung Odyssey G9 (2023), which is restricted by its OLED panel. That's not to say it's a bad monitor for working on documents. Not at all – but Samsung has clearly prioritised gaming here, and that should play into your decision. With its 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 pixels), 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and typical 400 nits of brightness, it shows off games really well, and that extends to videos from the web or played over streaming apps too. It can cater for TV viewing too, so for some you'll want to consider this almost as a 43-inch gaming TV alternative, marrying the best of both worlds into one desktop solution.Instead, the Neo G7 could replace your TV in the living room, or even make a nice bedroom TV substitute if you fancy gaming from the comfort of your bed. The bright side of having such a large display is a more absorbing picture, making the mountainscape of Horizon Zero Dawn even more picturesque.
