About this deal

Equipped with a built-in amplifier, the R1850DB speaker offers a robust and powerful audio output. It features a dual-input system that enables seamless connection with multiple audio sources. Users can easily switch between different sources without the need for constant reconfiguration.

A light on the front of the active speaker will change colour to show what the current input mode is. This light will change to blue when you are in Bluetooth mode. With the 70W RMS power, the R1850DB reaches up to volumes of around 102-104dB before any noticeable distortion. The bass reflex ports have been moved to the front to allow for more flexible positioning without sacrificing any bass response. Another notable feature is the multiple functions on the volume control dial. Besides increasing or lowering the volume levels, you can push the dial to switch between wired and wireless input sources. Also, press and hold the dial to initiate a Bluetooth connection. Polk PSW10 - Rs. 16k (from ProFX showroom, Bangalore - cheapest compared to online prices .i.e. 19k)The speakers are well built with study cabinets and the right weight to sit well on the surface. Like the R1700BT, the casing is made from MDF wood, which can minimize resonance than plastic material. So I connected the sub to speakers via a thin RCA-3.5mm cord that came with the speakers, and the output is pretty weak. I have to crank the sub volume to full to get a decent sound, whereas I could only turn it halfway max on my previous system with a receiver. It has a variable LPF range from 40Hz to 150Hz, not sure what the best setting is. I can't tell if changing the LPF re-directs bass from the speakers to the sub or if they are overlapping certain frequencies. Am I supposed to turn the bass down on the speaker EQ settings when connecting the sub?

volume range seems ridiculous for listening to anything but 60-100% range is sweet spot you'll definitely love With its versatile connectivity options, the speaker supports various devices such as a computer, game console, TV, or smartphone. It features Bluetooth connectivity, enabling wireless audio streaming from compatible devices. Additionally, it offers digital and analog inputs for connecting to different audio sources. The angular cabinet shape and included removable grills allow for flexible positioning either horizontally or vertically, but vertically is recommended for the best performance. R1700BT units have a solid build quality with ideal weight to keep them in place. In addition, the exterior casing features a high-performance MDF wood with vinyl walnut woodgrain wrap to add a decorative touch. This makes the speakers ideal for any studio or home application.Remote control is also included with the speakers. It will come in handy to control some functions if you don’t like getting up every time you want to change something. Edifier 1850DB If you press the volume button, it toggles between inputs such as Bluetooth, RCA, optical and coaxial. For example, if you aren’t happy with the audio low-frequency output, you can opt for a budget subwoofer down the line which isn’t an option with the R1700BT. While the R1700BT provides incredible value, the R1850DB’s extra connectivity, sleek design, and subtle but noticeable audio improvements are worth the very little extra. The R1850DB’s small but smart improvements across the frequency range, especially when it comes to the bass and mids, result in a more refined and complete listening experience compared to the R1700BT.

These are a set of speakers that I could and would use on a daily basis. If you’re in the market for something reasonably priced and of real high quality then I’d suggest you grab a pair for yourself. The Edifier R1850DB delivers subtle but noticeable improvements over the R1700BT, mainly due to the extra power and the slightly larger size.

The Sound

I live in a busy street so there is always some sort of disturbance even when windows are closed so I end up keeping the volume above 70% most of the time. But during silent nights 50% volume would suffice for a room sized of 10x20 ft for a good experience. Music played via Bluetooth seems 5-10% higher. These speakers produce different volume levels based on the source quality of the audio thereby you'll not have consistent audio experiences. FLACs, HQs, WAVs, 24bits are best formats to listen with these speakers which is SIMPLY MAGICAL but MP3s or youtube, soundcloud, gaana stream listening will feel fairly balanced. Movie watching with these speakers via Prime, Netflix, jiocinema, etc will definitely make you feel the need for higher vocal volumes. So now I have a subwoofer that's doing it's job and a pair of mid/high speakers not working so hard to reproduce sub frequencies--the whole point and goal. As is the norm with bookshelf speakers of this design, the two speakers cover both active and passive. Apart from the rear of the speakers, they are the same size and you won’t be able to distinguish between the two.

Initially, I was not impressed. Really, the sub seemed to add very little and I had trouble getting it dialed in to where I was happy. It shares the same 4″ mid-bass driver and 19mm silk dome tweeter as the R1850DB, both appear to be well constructed based on durability testing. For a 4″ driver, the R1700BT woofer can provide a respectable bass output for a bookshelf speaker, even if it only goes down to about 60Hz.

While it does cost more, the added flexibility for home theater integration and upgradability down the line is an excellent bonus. Furthermore, the front is textured and does not attract fingerprints easily. Also, the removable metal grill is high-quality and will come in handy to protect the drivers from dust. When you look at the price, it really isn’t that much more expensive and I’ve seen it on sale multiple times.
