About this deal

The Clarice Bean series is a series of children's books written and illustrated by English author Lauren Child from 1999. The stories follow middle schooler Clarice Bean and her challenges navigating the complex ethical, social and philosophical questions children deal with at school and at home.

Child decided that each Charlie and Lola story would focus on the small, everyday issues that feature in the lives of young children and yet resonate with adults as well, such as likes and dislikes, envy and fear: This is such a cute book! Clarice Bean is such a funny little kid. She has her own perspective on things and I love all her little quirks. Still, there’s a lot to do even to prepare for a Christmas for seven, whether that’s remembering to send off Granny’s parcel to New York, taking singing lessons for the Christmas concert, making fudge or helping Clarice’s friend Karl walk his dogs – and source a perfect wooden spoon. Despite a few unfortunate accidents, the family make it to Christmas Day – but will there be a few extra surprises in store? I used to love this book when I was a kid. I remember my mother gave it to me and that it was the first big book I'd ever read! I was really excited! This book it's cute and funny. It's rare to find a children's book as funny as this one. Also, I reread it when I was in High School because I found it in my school's library. Does any one else thinks her favourite author looks like Clarice Lispector? Maybe that's why her name is Clarice, I don't know... It's just a thought. She studied Art at Manchester Polytechnic and London Art School, after which she worked in a variety of jobs, including assistant to Damien Hirst. She also started her own company, 'Chandeliers for the People', making exotic lampshades.

Child was born in a small village in Wiltshire in 1965, the second of three sisters. Her father was head of art at Marlborough College and she studied there at sixth form, then went to Manchester Polytechnic and London Art School.

She and Karl fall out as she didn't come to Clem's party. She learns Clem is being bullied by Justin Broach. She says sorry to Clem and becomes friends with her. She also learns Clem is a ruby redfort fan like her. She invites her to the film premier and becomes friends with her. She and Karl make up and become friends again. A television series based on her 'Charlie and Lola' books has been made into an animated series for CBBC, and she has written several books recently which are based on these tales. Grace is Clarice Bean's worst enemy. She is often very mean to Clarice for no particular reason, especially about her spelling. She is good at just about everything and people say she is the teacher's pet. Mrs. Wilberton never believes Clarice Bean and always believes Grace. An important plot device is the Ruby Redfort collection, a series of fictional books in which Clarice Bean and Betty Moody frequently find inspiration. They are about a young, American girl, who is an undercover secret agent. In Clarice Bean Spells Trouble, Clarice and Betty also watch the Ruby Redfort television series, which was adapted from the books. In Utterly Me, Clarice Bean, it is revealed that Hollywood are adapting it into a film. There are nine books in the Ruby Redfort series: The secret codes used in the book were developed by Child and mathematician Marcus du Sautoy. The main codes in all five books are based around senses. The first book: sight, the second book: hearing, the third book: smell, the fourth being touch and the fifth being taste. That, she says, is the moment she loves most of all. “There is a moment when, instead of being in agony – I find writing an agony – there is a tipping point. Not long in, I start to think, ‘I hate writing more than anything else. I can’t think of anything to say, I don’t know what it’s really about.’ In utterly me, she is shown to daydream in class and annoy her mean teacher, Mrs. Wilberton. She loves Ruby Redfort, and has read all the books a least once. She gets annoyed by her family quite a lot, mainly by her younger brother. She has to partner up with Karl to do a project about educational books because Betty is away. She doesn't know where though. At first she finds him annoying but then warms to him. She has a row with Betty because of this and tries to say sorry to her, Betty at first refuses and reveals she went to Russia for a few days. She then accepts and asks if she can come round to tea on Friday. Clarice says yes, but then realised that she invited Karl on the same day. Betty came round and so did Karl a few minutes later. Betty loves Karl's dogs and warms to him too. Clarice and Betty then make up properly. Clarice Bean,That's Me" was also a highly commended runner-up for the Kate Greenaway Medal, the annual British Library Association award for children's book illustration. [2] [a] "Clarice Bean Spells Trouble" made the shortlists for both the British Children's Book of the Year and the Red House Children's Book Award. That’s true,” says Lola. “Well I might just try one if they’re all the way from Jupiter. Mmm, not bad,” she says, taking another bite.' on television we have to be careful to show that Lola is eating bits of dried banana, instead of salt and vinegar crisps, because the BBC have strict guidelines on children and eating. I don’t think people need to be so worried, to be honest […] Children aren’t stupid.'

She won a second Smarties Prize in 2002 for That Pesky Rat, which was commended for the Greenaway too. [12] [a] In the same year she wrote her first children's novel, Utterly Me, Clarice Bean, one of 39 books nominated by the librarians for the Carnegie Medal. [14] Her second novel in this series, Clarice Bean Spells Trouble was shortlisted for the 2005 British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year. The third novel, Clarice Bean, Don't Look Now was published in 2007. Before writing and illustrating children's books Child started her own company 'Chandeliers for the People' making lampshades. It was only when she came to write and illustrate the book Clarice Bean, That's Me that she decided to devote her time to writing and illustrating books for children, which combines her fascination for childhood and her talent for designing and creating. Child gets her inspiration from other people's conversations or from seeing something funny happen. It is possible her and Karl have feelings for each other as Clarice got herself suspended to keep Karl out of trouble. She also got jealous that Clem got Karl's attention rather than her.A spin-off series titled Ruby Redfort, which the US publisher called a "six-book middlegrade fiction series" in advance, was inaugurated in 2011. [1] Books [ edit ] There are many funny scenes where things go terribly wrong and it is hilarious! They get a huge tree that is way too big for their house.
