Death is the final stage of a Tamagotchi's life cycle. It can happen from any stage (with the exception of the baby stage on most releases) either through neglect or old age. When a Tamagotchi dies, the user will not be able to select any of the icons. However, they may see some of the Tamagotchi's final statistics (such as age and generation), and then begin a new egg. The Baby Stage is the second stage of the Tamagotchi life cycle. After the egg hatches, a baby will be born from it. The baby starts off with both the Hungry and Happy meters depleted, therefore requiring immediate care. On versions that include the naming feature, the baby must be named before the user can begin caring for it. Mimitchi is a marriage partner exclusive to the Tamagotchi On App. She was made available three times; once on the Japanese app from May 1 through May 31, 2019, and on the English app from September 1 through October 1, 2020 and from August 1 through August 31, 2022.

These requirements are always described on charts showing each growth, requirement and character. These charts are called Growth Charts, and are used for depicting all possible growth outcomes for a given Tamagotchi. Although countless varieties of fan-made growth charts exist, Bandai has released an official one for each release in the vintage era. The Original Tamagotchi contains most, if not all of the features that are still used in modern-day Tamagotchi toys and games.
