About this deal

It also has intelligent parking mode that will monitor your vehicle when not in use and record any movements it detects. We recommend the official Nextbase hardwire kit for this to prevent your battery from draining. Unplug the power cable, turn the Dash Cam on and time how long the Dash Cam stays on for. The time it takes for the battery to drain will help us identify the root cause What brand and size SD card are you using and when was the last time it was formatted? How is it being powered? The 522GW takes another slight step up in size which allows it to have a 3” touch screen instead of the 2.5” of the 422GW. Most of the other features are the same with both WiFi and Bluetooth to use it with the MyNextbase Connect app, emergency response and built in Alexa.

It’s a class 4 card? That isn’t suitable I’m sorry, the card needs to be a class 10 and a good reputable brand. We recommend SanDisk, there are others that work well though. Please remember that after this test your Dash Cam will once again need charging as the battery will be flat. We have two types of mounts available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. The adhesive mount is considerably more durable and less prone to breakage. The GPS allows you to see where the footage was filmed which can be seen side by side with the footage itself, it also records speed which could help in any accidents or insurance claims. Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention. However Protected footage is not overwritten in the same way. These can fill the card and reduce the quantity of normal footage saved on your SD card.

Jim has been testing and reviewing products for over 20 years. His main beats include VPN services and antivirus. He also covers smart home tech, mesh Wi-Fi and electric bikes. Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the dash cam and NOT via the mount.

a) Before you start, you'll need to mount the SD or micro SD card on your Mac. If you have a Mac with an SD card slot, use that. If not, you’ll need an SD card adapter.

Protection at a great price

The 4-metre cable is long enough to be trailed neatly through door seals and around the windscreen for a very tidy installation. The alternative is a hard-wired wiring set up; hooking the power mount into the ignition circuit and keeping the wires out of sight. It has been completely re-designed to provide a fresh new look and feel, for enhanced user experience. On the Dash Cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. There’s another new feature called AutoSync which transmits the low-res videos to your phone and uploads them to the new Nextbase Cloud where they are kept for 30 days. There’s no charge for this, and Nextbase says there will never be. Unfortunately, there’s very little help in the app an no explanation of how to enable AutoSync or how to access these videos in the cloud.

Take your Dash Cam inside and plug it into mains power or a computer using the Nextbase provided USB cable. The 222 is slightly larger than the 122 which allows it to have a larger screen and a wider camera angle at 140° instead of 120°. We don’t recommend Samsung cards, we see lots of problems further down the line. The read/write speed is more than capable @macgd016 At the time of writing, two months after the 422GW went on sale, the Alexa skill wasn’t available so we couldn’t try out these functions, but we could enable Alexa from the MyNextbase Connect app and use her usual capabilities.Nextbase have reserved many of their best features for the 622GW which was announced later than the other devices in the Series 2 Dashcam range and only went on sale in 2020. Image quality is excellent, even in low light conditions. The 412GW records in up to 1440P at 30 frames per second, but it’s perhaps at its best in 1080P at 60 frames per second, which provides extremely clear, crisp, fluid video.
