About this deal

Weeks pass and Beyah wants an explanation—for everything, including his life and the relationship he had with the old man. Samson continues to push off the conversation and, on the night before he intended to tell her about everything, he’s arrested. Police raid his home and accuse him of breaking in and entering. This is proven true when Beyah visits him the next day. I didn’t realize what seeing the ocean would mean to me, but now that I’ve seen it, I want every human on earth to experience it.

Review: Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover - What Is That Book About Review: Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover - What Is That Book About

Don’t worry. Hearts don’t have bones. They can’t actually break.’ But what if the only way of knowing you grew a heart bone is by feeling the agony of the break?” Feelings of guilt and remorse have plagued the young Dean, and he searches for a sense of peace in his dilemma with Sky. When they finally reconnect, a greater pain embraced the young man. For the second installment in the series, readers learn more about Holder’s youth, and his search for redemption in the act of saving another. Connecting with Colleen Hoover I think when you’re the worst of people, finding the worst in others becomes a survival tactic of sorts. You focus heavily on the darkness in people in hopes of masking the true shade of your own darkness. That’s how my mother has spent her entire life. Always seeking the worst in people. Even her own daughter. I love this song!” She jumps up and starts dancing. Marcos gets up and dances with her. It’s not a slow song, so they’re stomping and spinning around like their lives weigh nothing. There are two different kinds of wrong. The wrong that stems from weakness and the wrong that stems from strength. You made that choice because you were strong and needed to survive. You didn’t make that choice because you were weak.”

Even though pieces of me resemble pieces of them, I’ve never felt like I’ve belonged to either one of them. It’s as if I adopted myself when I was a kid and have been on my own since then.

I’ve imagined this moment for a while now. Sometimes when you hate someone enough, you can’t help but lie awake in bed at night, wondering what life would be like if that person were dead.I shake my head again, because even if family counted, my answer would remain the same. My father barely knows me. My mother wasn’t capable of loving me. I thought I knew who I was, but I had no idea people can become different versions of themselves in different settings.

Untangling stories of the past is a recurring theme in Hoover’s writing and she doesn’t disappoint here. By the end of the trilogy, it is apparent that the future rests on how well Layken and Will manage to deal with their pasts, together. Other Books One of Janean’s arms is draped over her stomach and the other is dangling off the couch, her fingers resting gently against worn carpet. She’s a little swollen and it makes her look younger. Not younger than her age—she’s only thirty-nine—but younger than what her addictions have made her appear to be. Her cheeks are slightly less concave and the wrinkles that have formed around her mouth over the last few years look as if they’ve been smoothed out by Botox. It took me awhile to warm to Beyah, as she was more judgmental than the so-called rich people she constantly insulted. Samson wasn't a douche...always a plus for a CoHo novel, but he also wasn't particularly riveting. It wasn't until the beach volleyball game that I really began to feel much of anything for him. As with all of Colleen Hoover’s books, the writing is solid. I always enjoy the way she builds her characters. Beyah is broken from her traumatic past but has an inner strength I admired. Her new family is wonderful – I genuinely loved that she forms a friendship with her stepsister, who is so kind and endearing. Samson’s character wasn’t as compelling as I hoped it would be. I was curious about his secrets and absolutely didn’t expect the twist towards the end with his character, but he’s definitely not a new favorite Colleen Hoover hero for me. Samson, who is unwilling to let Beyah waste her potential on him by staying in Texas, cuts her off and forces her to go to college. Meanwhile, he is sentenced to six years in jail.
