About this deal

Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World follows the young heroine, Jade, as she goes on a school trip and discovers the Gallery of Greatness in a closed wing of a museum. Inside, the exhibits come to life and Jade meets some of history’s most impressive women, including Rosa Parks, Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie and, of course, Emmeline Pankhurst. Head out of the main entrance towards The Foundry Pub, walk past the pub with it on your left and straight up South Street until you come to The Cross (stone monument) which indicates an intersection of four streets. Continue straight ahead up North Street. At the top of North Street is a ring road, take the pedestrian underpass to North Gate Car Park and continue through the car park to reach the Theatre on the far side. Bus

Your class will read the statements and decide whether they are true or false using the information. There are loads of brilliant non-fiction books that can teach your child about the world, as well as being entertaining, funny and gorgeous to look at. Sometimes non-fiction is also a fantastic way to tempt a reluctant reader into sitting down with a book. Coming with a large group? The coach drop-off point is outside the Festival Theatre with a coach park in Via Ravenna. One of the shows' producers Kenny Wax (responsible for the likes of SIX) comments: "What a thrill to have assembled our own team of fantastically great women to create this incredible show. No one is more excited than me for the curtain to rise on that first performance. And what an honour to be opening at the Mast, Mayflower Studios who are making a commitment to premiering such daring new work." Pankhurst grew up in a Liverpool suburb. Her mother worked as a children’s nurse and her father had several jobs, including building cars at the local Ford factory. “In the world I grew up in, in the 80s and 90s, there weren’t that many discussions going on about feminism,” she says.

Celebrated dramatistChris Bush(Standing at the Sky's Edge) and Number 1 hit songwriterMiranda Cooper(Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue) adapt suffragette descendant Kate Pankhurst’s awarding-winning picture book with music byMiranda CooperandJenniferDecilveo(Miley Cyrus, Beth Ditto), directed byAmy Hodge(Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear National Theatre). Today it’s a term many more people realise applies to them, which can only be a good thing. [But my parents] worked very hard to make sure my brother and I had chances they didn’t have, in following our talents and dreams. The Mary song is another highlight; it’s the musical’s equivalent of Six‘s ‘House of Holbein’: fun, fierce and fabulous – and feminist AF.

Fantastically Great Women is, essentially, to Six what Pretty Little Liars was to Desperate Housewives: a weaker, lighter take on similar themes for a younger audience. I would have loved the show if I was a kid. The children in the audience seemed to be having a great time. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed myself, and I might have even felt a little emotional at the end (when Jade was comforted by Rosa Parks and Anne Frank), but I recognise that the musical’s target audience is families. This is footage of Amelia Earhart landing in Northern Ireland in 1932. You can even see by people’s reactions and asking for autographs that this was a remarkable woman and achievement. She believes intervening with positive messages – via the arts – in the early years will help create more equality for girls. And she knows from her talks with schoolchildren that progress is being made. This is a comprehension linked to Emmeline Pankhurst on her mission to get women the rights to vote from 1903-1928.High-voltage history … (from left) Jade Kennedy, Christina Modestou, Kirstie Skivington and Renee Lamb in Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World. Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World Review: Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World

In this second book for older readers Kate Pankhurst, tells the fascinating stories of some of history's most talented female artists. We’re speaking during the COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference and Pankhurst’s latest in the series is about environmental awareness: Great Women who Saved the Planet. “I listened to Greta Thunberg’s speech, about ‘No more blah, blah, blah’ and thought why can’t we put her in charge? This is an urgent issue where we can’t wait for the next generation; it needs to be now, it needs to be our current leaders who do something and stop dragging their feet.” At BSL interpreted performances a British Sign Language interpreter stands on or at the side of the stage and interprets the spoken word and sound effects. Aside from Jade, who is the main lead in the show, there are four adult actors in the company and we all multi-role, so I play Emmeline Pankhurst, Agent Fifi and Jade’s teacher Miss Johnson. The other women featured are Sacagawea, Frida Kahlo, Marie Curie, Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, Mary Seacole, Gertrude Ederle, Jane Austen, Mary Anning, Anne Frank.
