Summer is hands down my favorite time of year—like, I’ve basically been counting down the days since last summer. To prepare for Memorial Day Weekend (the unofficial start of summer which, TFG, is less than two months away!!) I've been making the obvious changes to my wardrobe, but I've always been updating my fragrance wardrobe too. That means switching out my darker, cozier perfumes for summer-inspired alternatives, like light florals and zesty citruses. Yup, just like how you swap your sweaters and hoodies out of your closet for cotton dresses and white t shirts, you should be updating the scents on your vanity too. Warm and ~sexy~ meet fresh and floral in this best-selling perfume from Chanel. The notes of spicy patchouli, zesty orange, and rose smell delightfully fresh and modern, without being too cutesy. The citrus notes are a bit more medicinal and sharp than a usual bright, bursting fruity note, which gives it that cleaning-supplies vibe that some might find a bit strong. But I actually love it—the vetiver addition makes it a bit spicier and smoother. Not all vanilla perfumes have to have a strong, projecting sillage. Enter: Eauso Vert’s Vanilla Embers, which combines sweet vanilla bean with a mix of woodsy and spicy notes to tone down the sugared factor. It makes this perfume so low-key and chill to wear every day. But you could easily layer it with other stronger perfumes to pump up the sweetness when you want it.

Although patchouli is often found in musky, woody, and spicy fragrances, my favorite is when it’s paired with florals to give the whole scent a bright yet grounded finish. This cult-favorite perfume is heavy on the jasmine when you first spray it, but slowly mellows into a spicy finish after a few hours on your skin, making it perfect for a night out. You wouldn’t think vanilla and patchouli would go together so well, but in this fragrance from Michelle Pfeiffer, the combo creates a beautifully rich, warm scent that smells both decadent and grounded, thanks to its added vetiver and green grass (!). It’s smooth and intoxicating—like the perfume equivalent to jazz—giving it an earthy depth that truly isn’t overwhelming. Pure Sugar Cosmopolitan perfume - a fragrance for women 2019
This cheap perfume reminds me of laundry detergent, in the best possible way. It’s fresh and cozy, kind of like a Sunday afternoon. It’s the perfect everyday scent because of the subtle bergamot, peony, and amber notes. Plus, it’s a clean fragrance, meaning there’s nothing questionable in the formula (aka no sulfates, parabens, or phthalates). Smells like: Nothing you've ever smelt before and it gets you compliments from everyone from random taxi drivers to Kylie Minogue (excuse my name-dropping).You know those fragrances that are just so intoxicating you have to walk up to someone and ask what they’re wearing? That’s what happens every time I wear this. The scent itself is a musky, ~sexy~ scent that lingers everywhere you go. Yes, neroli and patchouli are both potent notes on their own, but when paired with the citrusy orange blossom and fruity raspberry in this scent, the combination turns almost tropical, like a candlelit dinner on a yacht in the Bahamas (which, tbh, will be the closest I ever get to that). Selfishly, peonies are my all-time favorite flower, so naturally I have no issue smelling like one. Still, even if florals aren’t your thing, don’t be intimidated— this isn’t your typical stuffy, overpowering, floral perfume. It’s incredibly light and pretty, so you’ll only smell like a whisper of peony rather than a scream. But although this is an eau de parfum (which usually means it is denser and has a stronger scent profile, meaning it’ll last longer), this perfume is fairly weak, which I actually prefer for days when I just want a slight waft of my fragrance. But if you like a stronger scent, dab a little Vaseline or Aquaphor on your wrists before spritzing this on to give the perfume something to grip onto and increase the longevity a lil bit. It's so traditionally feminine and elegant, to the point that I could see myself wearing it on my wedding day (a decision more daunting than the person I'm marrying, TBH). Legit the only downside to the airy, lightweight quality of Rose 31 is that it only lasts a few hours on me—womp—so I always carry a lil 15ml travel size to re-apply throughout the day.
