About this deal

The first thing to be noted is that this series follows the literary style of Japanese web novels. That means the fourth wall is broken a lot and the characters will make side comments directed at the reader. Overall, it reads a lot like a blog or a diary. That's why you'll see things like Arthur's POV when different characters narrate. The story telling itself is a mix of wuxia/xianxia and Japanese, meaning there are things like ki cores and absorbing energy from the atmosphere, but instead of ki, it's mana. There’s no way you can read T he Beginning After the End, Vol. 1 and not be eager to experience more of Arthur’s adventure, so for more The Beginning After the Endcontent, head to Tapas, where you can read the original webcomic, and stay tuned for news on the print edition of The Beginning After the End, Vol. 2! I was immediately intrigued by the premise of this book. A powerful king is reincarnated into the body of a baby boy and is raised by brand new parents in a world that he knows nothing about. As you can imagine this led to some hilarious scenes and also contributed to some very interesting character dynamics.Tae Ha Lee, writing under the pen name TurtleMe, is a fantasy novelist and webcomic author. Blending elements of Western and Eastern literature, TurtleMe creates a unique and compelling reading experience that resonates with global audiences. His award-winning series, The Beginning After the End, has been translated into over ten languages and has captivated readers worldwide. If you are not used to these styles, this book will be very difficult to read and come off as amateurish and low quality. If you are used to it, the reading will go smoothly and you'll find yourself laughing at the humor quite easily. Very solid book that seems to mix mana core and essence gathering elements with other standard YA fantasy tropes that you would find in something like Eragon. There were a few minor spelling and grammar goofs, but they didn't detract from the reading experience.

And I found as more of the power fantasy presented itself, the less attached I became to the story. Also, it became clear that this is gearing up for a high fantasy type of story as we get hints of higher powers and greater conflict. Okay, I'll be honest and admit that the blurbs for the rest of the series clued me on that more than what's actually in this story. It's too bad because I think I'd like it more if it remained more idyll/pastoral than higher-concept conflict. The Beginning After the End, Vol. 1 contains the early years of our hero, Arthur Leywin. In his past life, he was the mighty King Grey, who led armies and fought wars until his mysterious death. He is then reincarnated as the newborn Arthur Leywin, raised by first-time parents in a magical world that he knows nothing about. What’s a king to do in this brave new world…let alone in the body of an infant! Anyway, not borrowing trouble, I think I'll round the 4½ up to five stars just for the depth of the emotional resonance in this prodigy/genius/old guy. And particularly with the depth of relationship with Sylvie (the elder) and the elven not-the-king. Very well done for all I'm not going to pursue further. It’s only expected that as Arthur grows there will be more challenging adventures that will show his true potential. I had so much fun reading this first volume that introduced what will surely be a long, emotional, and satisfying story. Between Arthur’s quirky baby scenes and the training montage, there was never a dull moment in The Beginning After the End, Vol. 1! Much of the story reads like it is for children as nearly every character seems childish, especially in comparison to the young Arthur with an adult intellect. The story primarily is just about Arthur being unprecedentedly awesome while Arthur expects more of himself.
