Chris is Dan's only real friend, and their bond was formed when they were forced to attend "Camp Atrocious" as children. Their relationship as best friends was solidified when they band together with the other children to take down an abusive camp director running the camp. This could explain why Chris puts up with Dan's antics throughout the series. Really love the storyline! And gosh the part in book 6 where Kyle meets his fake mum that he created with his mind honestly made me cry.
