Latex allergy is less common now than it was in the 1990s when natural latex allergy was a common cause of allergic reactions, affecting healthcare workers and other occupations where there was exposure to latex gloves and other products containing latex rubber, as part of the job. Since latex and powder free gloves and other latex free products are now widely available, the amount of people with latex allergy has been reduced. What is natural rubber latex and how is it used? There is virtually nothing you can’t do with moulding rubber - also known as liquid rubber. For example, you can use the liquid rubber to make thin and fine moulds for smaller figures, sculptures and similar. There are plenty of opportunities for the creative type who likes working with moulds. Although white is the most common colour, we also offer several other colours. Below is a complete overview of the colours we currently offer:

If you have a latex allergy you may have a cross reaction to certain fruits. The type of fruits that contain similar proteins to latex include avocado, banana, chestnut, kiwi, melon, plums, strawberries and tomatoes. It may be that you are able to continue eating these foods with no symptoms however it is important to be aware of the possibility that, as part of this cross reactivity, you may develop an itchy and/or swollen mouth or throat. What should I do if I suspect I have a latex allergy? This is known as cross-reactivity, where the proteins in latex have a similar structure to the proteins in these foods. If you are allergic to any of these foods, you may also be allergic to latex, and vice versa. There are several types of synthetic rubber materials used instead of natural rubber latex for protective gloves. PVC gloves are widely available and safe. If you have been advised to carry non-latex gloves for use in an emergency, it is sensible to carry a large size. Suitable gloves are Ansell Dermoprene, Elastryren, Johnson & Johnson Allergard, Neolon You must carry two AAIs with you at all times, as you may need to use a second one if your symptoms don’t improve after five minutes or get worse. Keep collections to yourself or inspire other shoppers! Keep in mind that anyone can view public collections - they may also appear in recommendations and other places.AIRWAY - swelling in the throat, tongue or upper airways (tightening of the throat, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing).

As you say David, I'm sure there are good and bad examples out there. I had a latex sealed cag (was centre issued staff uniform, and pink!) and those seals leaked terribly, I'm sure there are equally bad examples of neoprene seals, but my experience of them has been excellent.David Perry wrote:So it might be the design of neoprene seals which make a difference between them leaking or not?

If you have asthma and it is not well controlled, this could make an allergic reaction worse. Make sure you discuss this with your GP or allergy specialist and take any prescribed medicines. Kelly KJ. Latex allergy: Where are we now and how did we get there? Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice. 2017;5:1212.

People who often use latex gloves or other products containing latex are particularly at risk of developing latex allergy. For example: Everyone with Type 1 (immediate) allergy symptoms should be referred to an allergy clinic and those with Type 4 (delayed) symptoms are usually seen in a dermatology clinic. There can be overlap in Type 1 and Type 4 symptoms which makes it difficult to make a diagnosis and means people with Type 1 reactions might be seen in a dermatology clinic. If you're allergic to latex, you're likely to have symptoms after touching latex rubber products, such as gloves or balloons. You also can have symptoms if you breathe in latex particles that are released into the air when someone removes latex gloves.
