About this deal

I plug it in as soon as I get into the office in the morning and the floor is warm within 30 minutes. The RugBuddy does not raise the temperature in the room which I like as being in a too warm environment makes me sleepy. It does, however, take the ‘bite’ off my legs. I am no longer in pain and can sit comfortably at my desk all day. Next, we looked at the RugBuddy Speedheat. This is similar in many ways to the RugHeat mat, but the polypropylene layer provides for better heat distribution. It’s also available in a different selection of sizes. So depending on the size of your area rug, one or the other may be the ideal fit. But potential savings can be wiped out by higher domestic heating bills if you don’t plan how you heat your work space. However, if you're not that confident with DIY, we'd recommend using a professional. They'll be able to consult on the suitability of your rooms for electric heating and the best type as well as preparing and insulating your floors and installing the wiring. They'll also be able to draw up a plan for where wiring will go – for example, underfloor heating wires shouldn't go under any permanent fixtures or fittings.

William was very helpful, discussing with me how best to use a RugBuddy on the type of floor we have (wood on top of a concrete base) and what size Rug Buddy and underlay would be best for the space I had and how we were going to use it.On the plus side, there are a couple of useful safety features. A built-in temperature sensor will shut off the power if it hits 115 degrees. The coils will also shut off automatically after six hours of operation. Occasionally, on really cold, un-insulated, floors, customers say they get best results by using an insulating underlay. We don't yet supply this type of underlay as it's not available in rug shaped pieces. Have a look at RugBuddy FAQs for more on buying insulating underlay. Programmable thermostats - these allow you to select when you want the underfloor heating to turn on and off, and the temperature you want it at (you may want different temperatures for different times of day, for example). Space heaters are not meant to be used as primary heating units. The same can be said of RugBuddy. While you will love the warmth that radiates from the tips of your toes to the top of your nose, you should not plan to heat an entire room with one RugBuddy. However, smaller rooms may be nicely heated if much of the room is covered and the door remains closed. The largest RugBuddy is 63" x 93", which is about the size of a 5.5' x 8' area rug. Of course, smaller options are offered for use under any bath mat, welcome mat, kitchen carpet and more.

Underlay is strongly recommended in all situations and essential on hard floors such as tiles, wood, laminate, and vinyl. Read the reasons why here. The last thing to keep in mind is that an under rug heater isn’t suitable for use as a primary heater. To keep a warm room all by itself, the room would have to be closed and well-insulated. Even then, you’d need to cover at least 70% of the floor with heating elements. Instead, think of these heaters as a supplement to your existing heating. Final Verdict

Benefits of Heating Mats

The Warmset heated carpet, as seen with a FLIR One Pro thermal imaging camera. Specifications - Warmset Electric Foot Warmer / Foot Mat Heater Power Usage RugBuddy® Electric Under Rug Heater is an attractive solution for warming cold spots in any room of the home or office and very easy to use. You simply place the heating mat under your area rug and plug it in. On carpet and other insulated floors, including most wood/ laminate/ tiled floors, all you need is standard anti-creep or anti-slip underlay.

Electric underfloor heating thermostats are usually wall-mounted in the same room as your underfloor heating. They let you adjust the temperature of your underfloor heating to the level you prefer, helping ensure the system runs efficiently and keep costs down. You'll need a separate thermostat for each room you have underfloor heating in. Types of thermostat However, it has an added benefit. Because the material is soft, it provides plenty of cushion for the inner coils. You can use it directly under a carpet without the need for a carpet pad underneath. On the other hand, the bottom is smooth and doesn’t provide any grip. If you’re on hardwood or another slippery surface, you’ll still want to use an anti-skid mat underneath. Mats. With these, a series of wires are attached to a mat at regular intervals. The mats can be cut to size (avoiding cutting through the wires themselves) and laid across a smooth and level floor. The flooring is laid on top of this. Mat-based systems can be easier to install, but they may not be as good for small or irregularly shaped rooms, as you have to work around the placement of the wires. It’s economical too. This is because you don’t have to have high air temperatures to feel comfortably warm with radiant heat. If you think of the warmth you feel moving from shade into strong sunlight on a crisp winter’s day, you’ll know what I mean!RugBuddy has multiple uses. If there are any premature fails, you’ll be fully covered. Be aware that you need to have a soft mat between the heating mat and the floor. If it’s directly on a solid surface, furniture could damage it. When I arrive in the morning, the temperature in my office is anywhere between zero to five degrees. I turn on my RugBuddy and my oil filled radiator. After 45 minutes the air is at 20 degrees. I turn the radiator off and leave my RugBuddy on for the rest of the day, as that is all I need. This is not only a cost effective way to heat my garden office but it is great to be able to sit at my desk and warm my feet!
