About this deal

Paste-the-paper wallpapers are one of the most common-and most traditional- ways of hanging wallpapers. If you are not sure about the colour, pattern or texture of the wallpaper you wish to buy it is advisable to use the Wallpaperking sampling service. Wallpaper colour shown on your computer screen may vary slightly from the product itself. We do our best to ensure that the wallpaper photography matches as closely as possible with the product itself. However, as every computer monitor has different settings for brightness, contrast etc the result depicted may appear to be a shade lighter or darker than it is in reality. Reverse Alternate Lengths - Reverse hang is a method that is often seen with plain or lightly textured wallpaper and it is the process of placing adjacent strips in alternating directions. Ultimately, every other strip is reversed in direction. The reason why plain wallpaper might have to be reverse hung is to prevent shading. A very important aspect of hanging wallpaper is understanding your wallpaper’s pattern match. Pattern match is simply the horizontal alignment between two adjacent strips of wallpaper. If you don’t follow or understand your wallpaper’s pattern match then the wallpaper may be hung incorrectly resulting in disappointment and a waste of time and money. There are four main types of pattern match. It is possible but not recommended. It can be done if you are hanging over a flat wallpaper but it is not possible to hang over textured or vinyl products, as the new paper will not adhere. For the best results and most professional finish it is always better to strip off any existing paper. What is a vinyl to vinyl adhesive, and when do I use one?

If you're trying to match new wallpaper to an existing pattern in a photo, the first step is to identify the wallpaper. This can be done by looking for key features of the pattern, such as the color, design, and scale. It's also helpful to take a close-up photo of the wallpaper and compare it to different samples. Using a wallpaper identifier app: Sizing is a term used for applying a coat of paste to a wall prior to decorating. To size a wall apply a diluted solution of wallpaper adhesive to the wall prior to applying the paper. While not always necessary it is recommended if applying paper to a newly plastered, repaired or porous surface. Calculating the Quantity of Wallpaper Do you calculate the number of wallpaper rolls I will need? As a general rule, you should flip every other strip to make sure there are not color variations to worry This type of wallpaper is more cleanable than the ‘ spongeable ’ type of wallpaper above, however it is still vulnerable to water damage.

Wallpaper pasting

This wallpaper hanging pattern is often seen on plainer wallpapers. It requires each strip of wallpaper to be hung in the reverse of the other. This prevents shading on plainer wallpapers.

You do not need to paint Superfresco paintable wallpaper at all, however if you do wish to paint it you can. Decorating Tips What is a plumb line, and why is it important? It’s important to remember that although it is scrubbable , it is still paper and aggressive abrasives, significant pressure or strong cleaning chemicals are still liable to damage the paper. Extra-Scrubbable A straight match is where the left and right edges of the wallpaper strip match in a straight horizontal line with the left and right edges of the next strip of wallpaper. What is an offset match? A straight match design is identified with two arrows pointing directly at each other on your wallpaper label. This simply means that your wallpaper pattern will be the same from left to right on one strip to the next. The label should also indicate the size of the straight match (for example 52cm) so there will be the same interval between the matching pattern. For example, if you have a wallpaper that is one solid color without any patterns, it really doesn’t matter how the strips of wallpaper align. However, if you have an intricate diamond pattern, you have to pay attention to each strip to make sure that the half diamonds at the end of one strip lines up with the other half of the diamond on the next strip you apply.By far the easiest pattern match, this type of wallpaper needs no aligning. Simply hang the wallpaper in any way you wish, and the pattern will line up which means there is less wasted wallpaper as a result. Another way to identify wallpaper is by using a wallpaper identifier app. These apps allow you to upload a photo of the wallpaper and will provide you with a list of similar patterns. Some popular wallpaper identifier apps include: Ready Pasted– Ready pasted is not as common in the UK but you might occasionally come across it. This paper has already been pasted and needs dipping into a water tray to activate the paste before it can be hung. Your wallpaper arrives and it's time to take wallpaper to wall, but the label has got a series of symbols that look like they belong in greek mythology?! Don't panic, our complete guide to wallpaper symbols will help you get to know your wallpaper in no time so you can enjoy your decorating project!

Extra Washable– The symbol formed from three wavy lines identifies the paper as extra washable. This wallpaper can be used in kitchens and bathrooms as it is more resilient to damper environments. However, please do remember that it is not waterproof so must be kept away from direct water sources such as an area that may be affected by splashing water. Basically, don’t hang it next to a shower or sink. Free match – A free match design requires no aligning and so is the easiest of the pattern matches to hang. It does not matter how you place adjacent strips, the pattern will line up. Free match results in the least amount of wasted paper compared to the other pattern matches available. This is a more durable type of wallpaper. Scrubbable wallpaper can be scrubbed clean using a sponge or a cloth from a variety of different stains with a little more pressure than washable. Scrubbable– This wallpaper is one of the tougher paper types and is indicated by a symbol which resembles a scrubbing brush. This simply means that you can apply a little more pressure to remove dirt without the paper becoming damaged. We recommend also using a damp sponge and still taking appropriate care and precaution as ultimately, it’s important to remember that you are still dealing with paper. This is the easier of the two types of straight matches. Every other strip will be identical, the ones in between will be either slightly higher or lower than the first and will match. The most popular version of this type of matching is a diamond pattern and you have to drop the pattern down the length of a diamond to complete the shape on the next strip. There are two primary types of matches and two subsets for the second matching type. Understanding how each pattern type hangs will help you determine how long it is going to take to hang your wallpaper. An offset match design is identified with two arrows pointing towards each other but at offset levels. This is seen as the most difficult to hang however once you get your head around it it's definitely not something to avoid/shy away from! The design on an offset match wallpaper happens diagonally rather than straight across. The edge of the wallpaper only matches the edge of the second strip when it is dropped by a specific distance. This is usually specified on your label for example 64/32cm. 64cm identifies the pattern repeat and 32cm is the displacement. When hanging this type of wallpaper it's usually easiest to match and cut your strips on the floor/paste table before pasting and hanging. This indicates the depth, in cm or inches, of the wallpaper illustration. Wallpaper is printed using cylindrical rollers, with the design attached to the circumference of the cylinder. As a result after each revolution of the printing cylinder that pattern is printed again. This is the repeat - the design on the final printed wallpaper is repeated each time the roller turns. For example, visually you may see that every now and then on a wall the same flower head appears. This is the pattern repeating. Pattern repeats are often accompanied with a measurement, for example 64cm. This would indicate (in this example) the distance between the appearances of the first flower head and the second flower head. The biggest rollers - 64cm or 25" will give us the largest design repeat depth. Some designs repeat several times on the roller so create a much shorter design repeat, for example from as little as 2cm or 1". What is the 'pattern match' on my wallpaper?
