About this deal

There was so much character development that happened within this book. All the side characters were detailed and really made the experience all the more entertaining. Between the deep seeded feelings Tilly has found for Katherine, her love for her best friend, her family issues and the production of the play Cupid's Revenge, Tilly's life has been sent into one hell of a tailspin, and no one knows where it'll finally slow down. Why me?” he asked, and then looked up. “What if there’s literally only that one person out there for us? And what if it was Grace? I’m too young to know I’m going to die alone.”

So when her best friend is no longer able to play his role Tilly has to face more than her fear of being on stage. I also have to point out that there is one or two instances where our non - binary character Robin is misgendered. However, this is due to others not knowing and it isn’t through ignorance - and it’s corrected straight away once it’s been made clear they’re non - binary. Cupid's Revenge follows Tilly, a high school girl who is so not looking for a deep, romantic connection with anyone. Her life has been turned upside down in the aftermath of the pandemic, with the death of her grandma and her grandpa now dealing with dementia, and being forced to move in with Tilly and her parents.

The whole thing was kind of Teddy’s fault, because if it hadn’t been for his ridiculous plan, I’d never even have known about the existence of Katherine Cooper-Bunting. The author's name was unique as I have not read a book of theirs prior to this one. Wibke Brueggemann grewup in northern Germany as well as the United States. She studied such topics like romantic history and Renaissance art which showed through this book. Not only was this a sapphic teen romance book but Tilly and all the friends she made from joining a summer play with scenes from Macbeth and a Midsummer Night's Dream. The book itself reminded me of a Shakespeare comedy. It was a silent kind of fierce love. Plus, I haven’t really seen her in person for a couple of years, and let’s just say there’s an almost ethereal difference between fourteen-year-old her and the now-sixteen-year-old her.” And the relationships, both romantic and platonic were so wholesome. I loved how there wasn’t really any homophobia with any of the characters. I also quite liked how this book ended, the relationships were great. He cradled his violin like a doll and slowly slid down the doorframe until he was sitting on the floor.

Tilly is dragged to audition for a theater event by her best friend Teddy because he is "in love" with Katherine who is auditioning. Tilly falls for Katherine too, resulting in a big mess. Meanwhile, Tilly adjusts to her grandfather moving in, and he has early Alzheimer's.The thing is, when you’ve been friends with Theodore Booker forever, you kind of don’t question these things. Covid even held a big role in the book as well. I can tell the author may of wrote this during a tough time for us all. It made me realize that a whole generation of kids were going through the woes of puberty during a scary time in our world's history. I was going to stay way away from all that, even after what happened in church. And maybe even after that, but you know Cupid: He’ll get you when you least expect it. However, I really didn’t like the miscommunication. It is one of my many pet peeves within books… and so much drama could have been avoided if there was just some communication. There were some moments where I wanted to go into the book itself and shake some sense into the characters. I absolutely adore the humor and the overall writing style of this book. The pace was great, the plot was entertaining, the characters had good personalities, and the setting was portrayed quite nicely.
