About this deal

Our satellite images, from 2006 and 2021, show a dramatic and obvious change to the coastline over a period of 15 years. What causes coastal erosion? Carson is also a frequent namesake for prizes awarded by philanthropic, educational and scholarly institutions. The Rachel Carson Prize, founded in Stavanger, Norway in 1991, is awarded to women who have made a contribution in the field of environmental protection. The American Society for Environmental History has awarded the Rachel Carson Prize for Best Dissertation since 1993. Since 1998, the Society for Social Studies of Science has awarded an annual Rachel Carson Book Prize for "a book length work of social or political relevance in the area of science and technology studies." Environmental/Natural literature is a genre I'm increasingly drawn to, so the array of writings that Carson has published have been on my to-read list for some time.

Sandra Steingraber, editor, is senior scientist at the Science & Environmental Health Network and one of America’s leading environmental writers and anti-pollution advocates. Her books include Living Downstream: An Ecologist’s Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment (1997), Having Faith: An Ecologist’s Journey to Motherhood (2001), and Raising Elijah: Protecting Our Children in an Age of Environmental Crisis (2011). Armstrong’s latest critically accalaimed solo album with Decca Records in 2018, is an album for strings and piano featuring the Scottish Ensemble. The friends being half of local group Duskhouse, namely vocalist Lily Balmer and on Ibanez guitar is James Bowden. Martyn, as you would expect, is on vocals as well as playing his Fender Jaguar guitar. There is no drummer. M. Terry explained that her eight tune performance was “songs about love and demise of love”. Musically the set was beautifully crafted Americana pop songs. Before a cover of The Smiths song ‘London’ Terry explained that she “countrified covers”. A shore can be on a lake or a river (unlike coast, which is only used with open water). So shore is equivalent to coast in the context of rivers and lakes. You would only use it for large rivers though; otherwise use "bank" or "riverbank". They have warned people living in coastal areas that protection and compensation may not be available at all, and homeowners may be asked to pay to demolish their properties while still paying their mortgage. Before the last song David announced it was Melanie’s birthday. Already in good voice from singing along throughout the set, the crowd gave the bassist a few verses of ‘Happy Birthday’. A good example of the strong bond between the band and the devoted fans who devotedly attend The Wedding Present’s annual ‘At The Edge Of The Sea’ event. It's a beautiful sentence, the kind you want to roll around in your mouth for a bit before moving on to the next one. Nearly every sentence is crafted in this way, meaning the reading is often slow-going. The book describes intertidal life on the US East Coast, from Maine to Florida. Carson indicates various species that have counterparts on the West Coast and elsewhere, so I would not discount reading this if you are not on the East Coast. The strange animals themselves with their odd and varied adaptations stimulate the imagination. The descriptions of Carson’s own searches for these animals will appeal to even the most casual beachcomber, even if we, unlike she, are reluctant to tread forth with flashlight on a cold October night to see the anemone in the twice-annually-uncovered-by-the-tide sea cave! From coastal wiki) The strip of land that extends from the coastline inland to the first major change in the terrain features, which are not influenced by the coastal processes. The main types of coastal features are dunes, cliffs and low-lying areas, possibly protected by dikes or seawalls.

HM Coastguard said at the time the cliff had become unstable due to heavy rain. One homeowner said at the time he has been left “scared out of his mind” and he was desperate to move. Rachel Carson, writer, scientist, and ecologist, grew up simply in the rural river town of Springdale, Pennsylvania. Her mother bequeathed to her a life-long love of nature and the living world that Rachel expressed first as a writer and later as a student of marine biology. Carson graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University) in 1929, studied at the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory, and received her MA in zoology from Johns Hopkins University in 1932. People affected by this lose everything. Often they are families that have lived in an area by the sea for generations, or they are retired couples who have invested all of their life savings into their dream home.” A collapsed coastal road at Barmston on Yorkshire’s east coast.
