About this deal

The Sony WF-1000XM4 are a breeze to set up, particularly if you’re using an Android phone. They support Google Fast Pair so all you need to do is take the buds out of their case and you’ll receive a pop-up prompting you to connect them to your device. It worked perfectly with my Realme 6i, but pairing them with my iPhone 8 was hardly a chore – you simply connect as normal via the Bluetooth menu on the settings screen. Both headphones score well on the software side as well. There are specialist apps to accompany both the WH-1000XM3 and the QC35, with features like mixers, equalisers, and pairing. And both models can be linked to smart tech like Google Assistant (although only the QC35 is Alexa-compatible).

Their audio skills are hugely impressive, too. These Sonys are wonderfully rich, thanks to bass performance that's full, but not overwhelming by any means, along with meticulous attention to sonic detail. There is an EQ available in Sony's app if you want to tweak things, but I am not sure it's needed. While noise cancellation has enjoyed some solid improvements, audio quality remains similar to what we heard on the 1000XM2… which might have been more of a disappointment if the M2 weren’t such an impressive pair of wireless headphones in their own right. The WF-1000XM4 deliver the goods in the sound quality department as well. Like their predecessors, they communicate dynamics in an enthralling fashion. But they nail every other important element of musical presentation, too. These days, Sony has embraced wireless headphone technology, adopted new digital file standards, and made considerable strides in techniques like voice activation and miniaturisation. The result is a range of headphones that offers an audio solution for all sorts of music, gaming, and TV fans. So let's discover the collection and tease out which models are right for your needs. What Types of Headphones do Sony Have to Offer?

There’s also a handy Personal NC Optimizer function, which analyses the shape of your head and detects if you’re wearing glasses or if you have big hair. The headphones cater the noise cancellation to you by playing a series of test tones and working out what’s happening around your ears.

Zwei Nachteile sind aber hier anzumerken (ansonsten hätte ich 5 Sterne vergeben). Der Bügel kann schon mal kaputt gehen. Bei einem Kopfhörer ist dieser schon mal gerissen und musste geklebt werden. If you're choosing between the Sony WH-1000XM3s and the newer XM4 headphones, you're likely deciding whether to take the price cut on the older model and sacrifice some of the latest features in doing so. Connecting headphones to an iPhone – Linking your wireless headphones to an iPhone or other smartphone is usually much easier. Typically, you'll just need to head to your phone's settings menu and enable wireless pairing. When the headphones are turned on, they should appear in the phone's list of possible wireless pairings, and they should register as “connected.” When that's done, you're good to go.

Add all of the ingredients together – the increased comfort, improved noise-cancelling and serious audio ability – and you have a close to perfect pair of noise-cancelling headphones.Essentially, there’s nothing to complain about here. The clarity and detail offered means that a recording’s sonic flaws can become exposed, but that’s hardly the Sonys’ fault. The generally crisp, sparkly treble is ample compensation as far as we’re concerned. Sony WH-1000XM3 – The most important current model, the WH-1000XM3 has a headband-style design, and features wireless technology. But wireless connectivity isn't the main selling point with these headphones. Instead, their noise cancellation technology is what catches the eye. As Sony states, these headphones “take you even deeper into silence”, allowing listeners to focus on the music they love, without distractions. The critics have responded favourably, with Expert Review praising the sound quality and comfort provided by these elite headphones, which should be suitable for a general audience. That’s an impressive list, but the improvements don’t stop there. The charging case can now be topped up wirelessly, Sony’s Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE), which upscales lossy audio formats, has been upgraded, and the buds have had an IPX4 rating for water resistance slapped on them. Adaptive Sound Control, a feature on XM3, detects your activity and adjusts the ambient sound settings to suit. However, the XM4 have a more intelligent version of the tech that can learn to recognise locations you frequently visit and tweak the sound accordingly.
