The top half slides out of the way to allow the blade to pass by, but it means the fence is thin and a bit wobbly. Compared with the solid sliding fence on the Bosch GCM8SJL it’s not the best. We can easily cut different materials up to the depth of 65mm (2.5 inches). This depth is perfect for large construction work. It also cuts the fine pieces of large and hard timber material. A plus point is its cutting width is 12 inches. One of the benefits of Metabo not using such heavy gauge aluminium is the overall reduction in weight. Even though this saw takes up almost as much space, it’s much lighter than the Bosch. Coming in at 13.5 kg, it’s much easier to carry around using the big top handle. Verify that the folding blade guard is functioning properly. It should move freely and automatically cover the saw blade when the saw is folded up to the starting position. It should also allow unobstructed access to the saw blade without touching other parts when folded down.

I immediately came across a bit of a problem. Supplied with the saw is a hex key with a Philips head screwdriver on one end. This works if you want to adjust the fence or change the blade but manipulating the laser guide and angle indicators was another matter entirely.The cut depth is an ample 65mm (2.5 inches) which will cut a range of timber and some good size planks but will not cut through the larger construction size timbers. If this is for more finishing work and light construction it will be fine. There is also a depth stop feature allowing you to cut accurate groves. The first test of the performance of this mitre saw is to find out how well it came set up from the factory. The next challenge is finding out how easy it is to adjust the angles and the laser guide if it’s not perfectly set up. Turning the saw table through 45° in either direction is lovely and smooth. I’m pleased that Metabo have included positive stops at all the common angles: 0 °, 15 °, 22.5°, 30° and 45° on both sides. U nástroje za necelé 4 tisíce nelze předpokládat 100% nástrojářskou přesnost a perfektní domyšlenost. Pilu mám skoro rok a řezal jsem s ní smrk, buk i dub, malé dubové pásky a hranolky, ale i dubový trám 10x10 (na terasu) nebo smrkový trám 18x10 (na pískoviště) a při troše laborování si poradí i s takovými kusy dřeva - jen je třeba řezat na vícekrát a trámy otáčet. Já jsem s pilou spokojen, s negativy jsem se naučil pracovat a za letošek jsem s ní vyrobil celou terasu, pískoviště, šuplík pod dětskou postýlku, spoustu polic, dubové regály na květiny před francouzská okna, nařezal fůru starého dřeva k ohništi a spoustu dalších věcí. Pracovat s ní ale pravidelně 2-3x týdně nebo vyrábět více věcí, kde potřebuji x dílů stejných rozměrů, vybíral bych už jinou, dražší.
