Deep and Intuitive Control on the Move Once the installer is finished open Logic with the Launchkey connected, you may be prompted to Auto Assign controls (which you can accept). If not, go to Logic Pro X > Preferences > Control Surfaces > Setup > New> Install and find the Launchkey Mini MK3 and select Add. The Launchkey Mini MK3 features 25 velocity-sensitive mini keys, making it easy for beginners to piece together expressive chords and melodies. The Akai comes in various colour waves, which is great if you’re after a custom look. However, you can’t get over the fact that they make it look a bit ‘kindergarten’. That built in arpeggiator and those chord scale features are a nice touch. The ideal tool for beginners!

Two highlights of the Launchkey Mini are the onboard arp and fixed chord modes. The arp has multiple modes, rhythmic patterns, timing divisions and a four-octave range. Put it in Mutate mode and it'll auto-generate variations. Even though both models have mini synth-action keys, we prefer how the MPK’s keys feel compared to the Launchkey.
