First seen in the Kill Team: Rogue Trader boxed set, the Elucidian Starstiders are available separately for the first time. The set comprises a Rogue Trader, a Death Cult Executioner, a Rejuvenant Adept, a Lectro-Maester, a Voidmaster, four Voidsmen, and Canid. The Death Cult Executioner is more than a match for any other operative in melee, while you can lay down covering fire with your rotor cannon and Elucia Vhane’s esoteric weaponry. Gellerpox Infected Gellerpox Infected Kill Teams don’t have any options; you just use most of the models from the original Gellerpox set, and the ones you don’t use you can add as Equipment. That includes Vulgrar Thrice-Cursed and his three massive friends – the Bloatspawn, Fleshscreamer, and Lumberghast – plus three Gellerpox Mutants and four Glitchlings. Abilities Into the Dark is a hefty box that contains everything you need to get started with Kill Team in the dim hallways of the Gallowdark. Revoltingly Resilient will be familiar to anyone who’s seen the Death Guard in action; each time an operative with this rule would lose a wound you roll a D6 and on a 5+, that wound isn’t lost. This basically increases the wound total of your bigger guys by 50%, and makes the Gellerpox Infected pound-for-pound the biggest wound kill team in the game.The Intercession Squad is a fully fleshed-out kill team, with a complete set of rules including Equipment, Tac Ops, Strategic Ploys, and Tactical Ploys. The Assault Intercessor Sergeant is worth a mention on his own – once armed with a power fist or thunder hammer, he’s a terrifying powerhouse of the Emperor’s wrath in close combat.

The most important change here is that operatives can never move over or through walls, regardless of any other rules, unless the wall has the Accessible trait. Additionally, line of sight can never be drawn through a wall, and operatives are never valid targets if every cover line drawn to it passes through a wall – similar to how smoke effects work. When determining range it may never be measured over or through walls, AND must take the shortest possible route to the target. Lastly, to benefit from cover or obscuring a cover line must be drawn through a corner or end of a terrain feature. This last detail seems to be in place due to the terrain provided in Into The Dark having small indentations and uneven surfaces that could technically be used to gain cover based on strictly following of the wording of the Core Rules.This issue also includes a pull-out card sheet with Tac Ops cards for the six kill teams from Octarius, Chalnath, and Nachmund. This latest version of Kill Team is a brand new edition from Games Workshop, and there have been several previous editions. The first Kill Team was a small section in the 4th Edition of the main Warhammer 40,000 game in 2004. Then in 2016, a small boxed game was introduced, and then in 2018 with a much more detailed version, with lots of supplements. Kill Team has been through several editions before reaching the current Kill Team 2021 version. I honestly don’t know what to make of the Gellerpox Infected as a kill team; they seem fun as hell to play and completely monstrous to take down, but they also seem a bit ponderous and slow in some regards. A lot of their games will depend on their ability to tank hits and plow into opponents early, which may be tough with lots of vertical terrain against faster opponents who can FLY. They’re also going to struggle a lot against enemies who can Stun them and make their massive wound pools mostly worthless. On the other hand they’ll also eat a ton of wounds and stay in the game and it’ll be interesting to see how that works out. The Kill Team Compendium is a supplement containing the rules and datacards for nineteen different factions to use in Kill Team, so if you already have miniatures from Warhammer 40,000, this will allow you to start playing with them straight away.
