Description

Ichigo discovers that her school friends Moe and Miwa have developed crushes on Ryou and Keiichirou. Though Ichigo fears her friends will be disappointed, she agrees to help them. They make gifts for the boys, but when they go to the café to present them, the boys are busy searching for mew aqua and ignore them. Hurt, the girls run out of the café and Ichigo scolds Ryou and Keiichirou for ignoring the girls' feelings. Quiche appears and creates two chimera animas from the spirits he stole from Miwa and Mow. Ichigo defeats them, and the girls spirits' are restored, but Quiche takes a light out of the lake before he disappears. When Moe and Miwa wake up, Ryou and Keiichirou properly thank them for the gifts. The girls decide to start a fan club for them. The Mew Mews of Ichigo Momomiya (bearing the Iriomote cat DNA), Mint Aizawa (bearing the Blue Lorikeet DNA), Lettuce Midorikawa (bearing the finless porpoise DNA), Bu-Ling Huang (bearing the golden lion tamarin DNA) and Zakuro Fujiwara (bearing the gray wolf DNA), they are the stereotypical "Girl Power" team to save the world from the aliens whom had their home destroyed to smithereens, and Earth is their next place of interest to do the same evildoer stuff. Like you know, each and every Mahou Shoujo tried-and-true formula that predates Madoka Magica. This is pretty stereotypical for the time, and for the most part, the remake serves its purpose well by adapting only the first 3 out of the 7 volumes closely and sprinkling whatever the production staff wants to add into it, making it into a modern remake of an old property, plus new songs to boot in its decency. But this is the same reason where the remake also lost a lot of its luster by being a low-tier production of today's anime industry standards, that not only gives little to no respect to the original, but instead is made in such a way that provides a source of income invested into the project. It's just sad that old legends, whether popular or not, their status have been mostly being castaways of a time where anime was fun (and it still is to this day), but it's how the anime industry had grown up to become an exploitative industry of work that all works are regarded the same way, and to me, this is not how things should've been, but it is what it is.

The artwork isn't too bad, The characters look cool and the costumes are fun. The only problem is the repetition, each character baisically has one outfit which they wear constantly. It's no big deal though. The designs for the characters are really good, their faces match their personalities well and over all the emotions are pretty nicely portrayed.

The English dub premiered on 4Kids TV on February 19, 2005, under the name Mew Mew Power. As 4Kids had announced, the characters and episodes were renamed, scenes were cut, the original episode story lines were modified, and the music was replaced with a new score. [5] Twenty-three episodes of Mew Mew Power aired before the series was canceled after 4Kids was unable to acquire the license for the remaining twenty-six episodes of the series. [6] All 26 episodes of Mew Mew Power aired in Canada on YTV in 2005, and in the United Kingdom on Pop Girl in 2008. [7] [8] Mew Mew Power was licensed for regional-language broadcast in France by Arès Films. [9] Mew Mew Bridget- Her entire transformation was cut due to her being naked during most of it. Parts of it were only shown during the group transformation sequences 4Kids made.

When Ichigo's father finds out that she has a boyfriend, he does not approve. He demands that Masaya defeat him in a kendo match before he will allow them to continue dating. Ichigo complains to her mother, who explains that her father loves her and just wants to protect her. Her mother also tells her that they too had to fight to be together when they were young. Ichigo rushes to stop the fight, reminding her father of the past and how her mother did the same thing for him. Though he does not want to face that his "little girl" is growing up, he grudgingly gives his approval of the relationship. I saw the original Tokyo Mew Mew when I was about 11 as one of the very first anime I watched and it had me UTTERLY in its grip. Since then, as I grew up, I became more aware of just how cheesy it was and poked fun of it with the teenage/young adult sense of "ha ha, silly 11 year old me for liking something like this"... I wondered why I liked it so much. The episodes of the Tokyo Mew Mew anime series are based on the manga series of the same name written by Reiko Yoshida and illustrated by Mia Ikumi. Directed by Noriyuki Abe and produced by Studio Pierrot, [1] the episodes focus on five girls infused with the DNA of rare animals that gives them special powers and allows them to transform into "Mew Mews". Led by Ichigo Momomiya, the girls protect the earth from aliens who wish to "reclaim" it. While the four Mew Mews are fighting the chimera animas created by Pie and Tart, the Blue Knight battles Quiche. He is injured while protecting Ichigo, but the arrival of the other Mew Mews causes the aliens to retreat. Before leaving, the Blue Knight tells Ichigo that he was born to protect her. Ryou appears out of nowhere to catch Mew Ichigo as she faints from her illness. At the café, the girls wonder who the Blue Knight is, and decide it must be Ryou but he claims he does not know anything about it. While on a date with Masaya, Ichigo is distracted and imagining she is seeing Ryou, but eventually discovers it is actually Retasu and Bu-Ling who were spying on the couple out of concern for Ichigo. After Masaya leaves, Ichigo admits she also believes Ryou is the Blue Knight. That evening while Ichigo is cleaning the café, Ryou surprises her by inviting her to go to the beach. Keiichiro Akasaka: Keiichiro Akasaka gets renamed Wesley J. Coolridge III and becomes younger, switching from being 21 to 17. (He is the only character to be made younger in the 4kids dub.) Wesley is depicted as a rich high schooler who is a very nice gentleman. Disclaimer: I started writing this a few episodes into season 2, however my impressions of the show span the whole thing so they apply to this season too! Mew Mew Renee- Like the others, the DNA is cut, to remove the fact that she was naked, 4Kids added a bra and underwear on her before her Mew Mew clothes appear. When Mew Zakuro comes forward to land gracefully on her ending scene, the scene is sped up, but her ending pose is kept. I actually wasn't there either, so I can't say for sure. I spent much more time on the shounen-side of early anime internet fandom partially because I try to avoid fandom drama (a wise choice) and only learned about most things from other people or rumblings. But I quite remember other 00s shoujo series like Fruits Basket having savage ship battles! So I wouldn't be surprised if that were true for this series as well. But I do know from looking that there are still a lot of people still fond of these characters and ships and their memories in fandom for them.

As a self-proclaimed fan of the magical girl genre, many of my pals have recommended Tokyo Mew Mew to me over the years. They would frequently note their fond memories of watching the show as kids, and talk about the characters as the main selling point. Ryou and Keiichirou learn that mew aqua may have been made by the aliens when they inhabited Earth. A strange type of energy begins emerging in Tokyo and trees grow out of control, turning the city into a forest. The Mew Mews find something that appears to be a large mew aqua in a tree but before they collect it, Tart arrives and turns the tree into a chimera anima. During the fight, Mew Ichigo realizes that Ryou cannot be the Blue Knight as they both appear at the battle to aid her. The Mew Mews defeat the monster, but they are unable to figure out what caused the forest to appear in the first place. There were also many cuts made to the episodes (some cuts even lasting 30 seconds to a full minute), even some that were important to the plot. Ichigo's merging with the Iriomote Wildcat was cut completely, causing confusion on how she got her powers. The scene showing Bu-Ling's father training in China is cut as well, so it's unknown if she even had a father in the English dub. Almost 4 minutes were cut out of episode 13 altogether due to it referencing episode 12 (which was put into discontinuity) and made it take place right after episode 11. So instead of Ichigo being afraid that Aoyama found out her secret at the cherry tree incident, they changed it to Zoey being afraid that Mark recognized her on TV. Visual edits, such as Japanese text, are completely erased or replaced by English text to relate to non-Japanese countries. Body lines in the transformations are removed to prevent "mature themes." Mew Lettuce's transformation is cut, so Bridget (Retasu) is only shown transforming in group transformations. All Mew Mew marks are removed except for in the Mew's premiere episode. Renée's (Zakuro) weapon is censored because it is the shape of a Christian cross. I have no choice but to sink bank into the mindset of a pre-teen girl watching Tokyo Mew Mew New - and surely it's pre-teen girls that are intended to be watching.Additionally, one of the other significant changes I'm cognizant of is the main cast that isn't Ichigo. Each girl is a character in her own right and is made loveable and engaging to watch. You care about them. It's a change I really love, Tokyo Mew Mew New feels like a series about all five girls rather than just the one. And, even though Ichigo is still the main character, it's through loving her friends that we as a viewer can relate to her and the way she loves and cares about them. I'm excited to watch season 2 and see more of them all! Mew Mew Kikki- Like the first two Mew Mews, the DNA scenes are cut, along with the scene her arm cuffs appear in. A small part when her main outfit comes on was cut as well. At the end, Mew Pudding is holding a different pose to avoid the Chinese reference at the end of the sequence. Out of all the transformations, Mew Pudding's was the one with the most cuts (if you don't count Mew Lettuce's being cut completely). Mint gets a more focused storyline later after her idol and fifth Mew Mew, the rising starlet Zakuro, is introduced. But I think with shows that focus on ensemble casts and strong friendships, the monster-of-the-week screwing around really helps when you're trying to get a team to know each other and figure out who they are. There's technically nothing wrong with the show's current pacing even as it tries to rush to introduce all the major characters, but because there's little time to develop some of those bonds may feel less earned than they should.

Ending Theme

At first glance Tokyo Mew Mew basically looks and feels like a rip-off of Sailor Moon with maids and catgirls, and for the first 15-20 episodes that’s pretty much what it is. But a funny thing happened on my way through this series; it got surprisingly good and wonderfully addictive. It should also be noted that my three year old daughter thinks this is the best thing in the history of television. While I certainly wouldn’t say that’s the case, watching her sing and dance to the opening "My Sweetheart" is almost too adorably cute for me to bear. Ichigo emerges as a very good lead. She shares many of the characteristics common with magical girls; ditzy, not overly bright, not very brave, a bit whiny, but extremely loyal to her friends and courageous when it really counts. She grows up a lot over the course of the story and her burgeoning romance with Aoyama and her own doubts about her own feelings and his feelings for her are compelling viewing. Though at times her personality can be a bit annoying (a lot like Usagi from Sailor Moon) but it’s impossible to dislike her. Saying you hate Ichigo is kind of like saying you hate kittens.
