About this deal

And as with all Liquitex products, the pigments in Heavy Body have passed extensive tests for lightfastness. Each pigment is rated according to the American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), and we only use pigments rated ASTM I or II*. This means your work will have the greatest archival permanence possible – at least 50 years+ in gallery conditions – with no color shifting or fading, to stay vibrant and true. What can Heavy Body be used for? When you’ve finished your painting session it is important to clean your workspace. Waste water can be left to evaporate, leaving behind acrylic solids that can be processed at your local waste disposal. Winsor & Newton, Liquitex and Golden offer some great advice for disposing of your paint waste in a way that will create the least environmental impact. Not only is following this advice better for the environment – it also means you waste less material! Get Creative! If you have a stiff, dried up brush that you are trying to rescue you may be able to remove the paint with Masters’ Brush Cleaner and Preserver, Zest-it Acrylic Brush Cleaner and Reviver or Loxley Brush Cleaner and Preserver.

Professional paints contain more pigment and tend to have extra ingredients to improve consistency and surface quality. Better quality paints usually cover a surface more thoroughly, while poorer quality paints may be too see-through, which can be an issue depending on what you're looking for. When you are squeezing paint onto your palette it’s important to consider the scale of your work and how much colour you will need. Even though stay wet palettes will keep your mixes fresh, it’s best to only squeeze out as much colour as you need to prevent wastage. Preparing Your Area If a more economical paint is called for we are more than happy to recommend our new STUDIO Heavy Body Acrylic 200ml Tubes. They can act as a perfect starting place for someone looking to experiment with heavy bodied paints or, for artists searching to add bulk colour to their palette at a reasonable price. Not only that, they come in a robust range of 31 highly pigmented colours. If they were good enough for Andy Warhol… Liquitex Professional Acrylic Artist Colour Heavy Body has the consistency of butter at room temperature, and is particularly good for impasto work and heavy application, retaining brushstrokes and even peaks without gels. The first acrylic colors offered by GOLDEN, Heavy Body paints are known for their exceptionally smooth, buttery consistency. The Heavy Body palette includes the largest assortment of unique pure pigments in a 100% acrylic emulsion available to professional artists. These colors offer excellent permanency and lightfastness. There are no fillers, extenders, opacifiers, toners, or dyes added.

Soft Body Acrylics have a consistency similar to heavy cream. Their low viscosity means colour application is smooth. They offer the same pigment load as Heavy Body, so your colours will be bright and vibrant. This paint will retain subtle brush strokes, however the effect isn’t as pronounced as it is in heavy body acrylics. They are perfect for all kinds of techniques, whether you’re using them straight from the bottle or mixing with mediums. They are popular for using with fluid art techniques such as acrylic paint pouring. Their fluid characteristic makes them easy to blend and to paint in fine detail. DPP stands for the pigment DiketoPyrroloPyrrole. It is a hybrid pigment - an innovation in pigment manufacturing where blends produce pigment with a balance of properties (i.e blend of organic and inorganic pigment). Organic and inorganic pigments differ in performance. Organic pigments have strengths in chroma and tint strength but are weaker in lightfastness and opacity; it is the other way round with inorganic pigments. Hybrid pigments provide an alternative, that help to bridge the gap between performance without neglecting environmental consideration. Many acrylic artists like to work with stay wet palettes that keep their paints fresher for longer. These types of palettes have an airtight seal, which prevents your colours from drying out. Usually they will come with a sponge layer which when wet increases the humidity in the palette. Liquitex Palette Wetting Spray can be used if you don’t have one of these palettes but need something to keep your paints fresh. Golden: Golden's heavy body and fluid acrylics, another very popular brand, are known for their high color intensity. They are also known for their unique viscosities and consistencies. Their fluid acrylics are especially worth a try if you are looking for a unique experience. One more big thing to think about is the grade of paint. Most brands produce student and professional grade paints. It's important to know the difference..

Viscosity

We're delighted to bring you the world's first cadmium-free acrylic paint from Liquitex. This new range delivers the same performance as their existing cadmium paint - they're just safer for you and the environment. Liquitex Professional Acrylic Colour (Including Heavy Body, Soft Body, Acrylic Gouache, Acrylic Markers & Ink) Pigment PR206 was discontinued by the supplier, and we reformulated the color to match as close as possible using PR179 for this pigment replacement. The new mass tone is a little warmer, cleaner and deeper. The new reduction is a little stronger, or deeper, than before. Short handled brushes are suitable for fine detail or small scale work. Their short handle means you can work much closer to your canvas, making adding those fine finishing touches easy. They are the preferred choice for artists who favour a precise, detailed technique. Synthetic and Natural Hair Brushes Most student ranges also contain additives so that all colours dry to a uniform finish and texture. This can be beneficial to beginners as there is no need to worry about any variations in sheen or handling. The following brands fall into the student quality category:

Highly versatile, dries to a low gloss surface on high impasto areas and a soft satin finish on thinner applications.Fluid acrylics: These paints have the consistency similar to oil or even water, and are often used for pouring and other fluid techniques. These acrylics are great creating smooth, even washes of color or very fine detail. While lots of high-street shops create their own-brand line of acrylics, these are nearly always produced with poor-quality ingredients with low pigment level. One notable exception is Cass, a hugely successful chain of art stores that is popular with curious hobbyists and serious professionals alike. The company’s own-brand, eight-colour set will set you up nicely for a foray into acrylic painting – and the inclusion of Sap Green will be very handy for those interested in painting landscapes, since organic greens are notoriously hard to mix. Another important quality to look out for is colour shift – that is how much the paint changes colour as it dries. Minimising this removes the need to compensate for changes in colour and the best acrylic paints dry much like the colour you get initially. Most acrylic paints are water-based, and they comprise pigment particles in an acrylic polymer emulsion as a binder, which keeps the pigment in place after the paint dries. The best acrylic paints have several benefits: they're fast-drying, the flex, you can clean them with water when they're wet and they're permanent when dry.

You may find a full size palette too cumbersome for painting when you are out and about – whether it be plein air or in the classroom. In these conditions, some artists prefer to use a disposable tear off palette. These one use palettes are made of an impervious parchment film which can be discarded at the end of each session. Professional grade acrylics on the other hand, are designed for professional artists and advanced students. They are made with higher quality pigments and binders and have a greater color intensity, lightfastness, and permanence than student grade acrylics. They handle better than student grade acrylics due to a smoother consistency. You'll also find that they have a higher price tag than student grade acrylics. When it comes to starting your painting it’s important to set up in an area with enough open space and good lighting. The scale you work on will mostly be down to personal preference. If you’re a beginner a large, empty canvas can be daunting, so starting on a small scale may be better. Conversely working on a large scale can feel freeing if you have the space available. We’d all love a big studio space with high vaulted ceilings but many of us can only work as large as our spare rooms will allow! Choosing Your Painting SurfaceWhile these paints fall under ‘artists’ grade, there are slight variations in their quality. Spectracryl are the lowest of the artist grade. Winsor & Newton and Liquitex are on par with each other. Ther very best quality acrylics are Golden. Student Quality Acrylic Paints You can achieve so many effects with Heavy Body. As well as brushes, you should definitely try applying with a knife - different shaped blades will give you different finishes. Combs and shaped scrapers will also give some interesting relief textures and patterns.
