About this deal

Most of all, Since Valve released their Steam Link APK and since Moonlight (for nVidia Gamestreaming) is a several-years-mature app, I've been having a blast playing games (with 1440p resolution on the host machine) from my PC all day today, when at home. Next step is experimenting with VPN'ing so that I can do the GRID-gaming that nVidia hosts, instead with my own machine at home, but that probably won't be as pleasant. Press the Install Driver button and wait for the drivers to be installed. Once completed press any confirmation buttons to complete the process and exit the program. So, when we received a secret tip-off about the GPD XD 2, it grabbed our attention and hooked us in like nerdy-trout.

As an Android Gaming Tablet it also handles this very well. The GPD XD Plus supports the Vulkan API, it means apps are more optimised and run faster. It can run most systems from the 70’s up to the 2000’s Edit: In the few weeks I've owned this thing, I've fallen in love with it. I now understand the keymapper button which allows you to bind touch controls to the physical buttons, thus making me far more formiddable in PUBG mobile. I'm loving the ability to pause any singleplayer title by closing the lid and resuming later, which means this device has been permanently *with* me for every long shopping outing, every line I've waited through, every slow phone call, and it's even helped me out of a jam or two at work. Second, the product itself is solid, thus far in my own testing. The software environment is a little odd to get used to. For example there are three different flavors of SNES Emulators out of the box, and they all have different input configurations, the most obvious choice also consequently being the worst (imagine A and X being reversed with B and Y while trying to play Super Nintendo games ...). They were all in English, though, in case you're looking this product up after seeing Linus Tech Tips' product review. The XD Plus has sold lots of units since its release and has enjoyed relative success, but we know that GPD can do and must do better. For a console with a similar price tag to the Creoqode Lyra, it has to be on top of its game not just on release day, but two, three, and even four years afterwards. The console is powered by a meaty 6000mAH battery, which gives you around 8 hours of continuous play time if you’re running emulators. Naturally, the more demanding the emulation the lower the stamina is going to be, but overall we were impressed with the staying power of the GPD XD. Even with a lot of use, we managed to get a few days out of it before the battery needed a top-up. Should I buy the GamePad Digital GPD XD? The second module is the “MOBA Controller Module”. It is a minimalist attachment that essentially just serves as a cap to protect the slot, granting unfettered access to the touch screen. Update: Bundled with the MediaTek processor is a 900MHz GPU, the ARM Mali-G76 MP4. This should be powerful enough to handle most mobile games available currently. RAM Navigate to “ GPD_EN-images-v1.07_20171228user ” folder, then “ images ”, and choose the “ MT8173_Android_scatter.txt ” file. It may take a few seconds for the data to load and you will see similar to the below image. Overall, the design of the GPD XD Plus is pretty good. It is made out of high-quality parts. Some people will think that it is a bit clustered and even looks a bit outdated, but others are fine with it. The best feature, and the most obvious, is that 5” screen. This thing is bright, has good quality images, and it works extremely well at night. It is built to display the nostalgic colors of older games.

In summary, EXCELLENT for Steam In-Home Streaming (AAAAND the new Steam Link app) or for nVidia GameSteam over Moonlight APK. Also good for most Emulators up to the fifth/sixth gen consoles. Migrating to a MediaTek SOC and doubling the ram/storage yields a snappy system with all-day battery life (I unplugged this at around 8am today and the battery was still at about 14% when I plugged it in after 8pm, using it heavily but sporadically throughout the day. 6000MaH is roughly 2x the battery capacity of a Samsung Galaxy S7 phone, for context).

GPD XD Plus Performance Review

The GPD XD Plus is powered by a Mediatek MT8176 processor running at 2.1Ghz, the graphics chip is a PowerVR GX6250 running at 600Mhz. There is 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of eMMC storage. The storage can be expanded with a MicroSD Card. The XD Plus has supports 2/5Ghz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi Fi and Bluetooth 4.1. There are three separate modules available for the GPD XP. Each of which offer varying levels of practical touch screen usage with your right hand. It’s safe to say that GPD did wash their hands of the XD+ eventually. They could have had some engineers working on newer versions of Android for it, but at the time they were focussing their efforts on their new Windows machines. If you consider the hardware, many current Android handhelds are far less powerful than the XD+. Even the forthcoming ones are only a few steps ahead, and the XD+ was released 3 years ago! I can’t help thinking that if GPD had supported the machine for longer, it would still be somewhat in the limelight now. You never know, maybe it would have spurred on the other manufacturers to bring more powerful machines to market sooner. The machine is no slouch, with specs that we still get excited about in new handhelds today. Processor

The software should now connect and begin the firmware update procedure. DO NOT REMOVE ANY CABLES OR CLOSE THE SOFTWARE. The GPD XD Plus measures 7.87 x 7.09 x 2.44 inches and features a 5 inch H-IPS display which is vibrant and clear. You can also connect a mini HDMI to HDMI cable to your TV and display the XD Plus on there. It is great for playing games and retro games on a large TV and transform it into an Android console. Another problem with the design is that the speakers are not in the right place and the sound is somewhat muffled. The volume buttons are very pushed together, so it will take some time to get it right when you want to adjust it. We’re big fans of the shape of the console and it emulates many games perfectly, giving retro gaming fans a chance to relive some of their favourite titles at home and on the go. But, having said that, there were and still are some major firmware issues, and the Android software the console uses is now way outdated. It is also possible to expand the storage further using a microSD card. Users can opt to use a microSDHC or microSDXC (which we highly reccomend) for increased speeds. The GPD XD 2 needs to deliver where the previous consoles fell short of the mark, bringing smooth emulation of games like Ocarina of Time and the other best N64 games to life with ease. Button Layout GPD claim a maximum size of 2TB, but seeing as how 2TB microSD cards do not even exist (on the consumer market) at the time of writing, the validity of the claim is anyone’s guess. Operating System/Firmware At first glance you’d be forgiven for assuming that the GPD XD is a Nintendo product, such is its similarity to the million-selling 3DS range of handhelds. It’s clear that the designers have simply ripped off the design of that clamshell system, even using largely the same arrangement of physical inputs – including the two additional shoulder buttons introduced with the New Nintendo 3DS. With excitement building over both the N64 Mini and the Dreamcast Mini, people want their retro handhelds to be able to recreate their favourite home-console adventures of yesteryear with ease.
