The course will be adapted to the needs of each student, but they should also take some responsibility for their own learning. For example, if you are really enjoying working on collages from week one, you could continue doing so. Tutors will let the students explore and will fully support them in developing their own pathway of interests. The course could also be used as a preparation for our Fashion Folio course, and an introduction to the CSM approach to fashion. The students should leave the course feeling confident about working independently to design and develop fashion ideas. They will leave being comfortable in a studio environment and feel ready to pursue further education in fashion design. If you are like me and have the memory of a goldfish, then capturing what changes you made to a sewing pattern, or would like to make in the future, is invaluable.
New methods will be shown to students through live demonstrations, in a way thats crystal clear and easy to understand.Theoretically, a fashion sketchbook could be any pad of paper or book where you draw ideas for garments! However, the key to most specially-designed sketchbooks is that they contain croquis. Our tutors will explain things in easy to understand, accessible English. If they need to use any special terminology they will make sure they explain what they mean.
Tips for producing an amazing high school sketchbook(this was originally written for A Level Art and IGCSE/GCSE Art students, but is relevant for students creating a sketchbook, art journal, or visual diary as part of any high school art qualification) In conversation with Chelsea College of Arts, MA Curating and Collections 2020 graduate and ‘In Transit’ founder Celina Loh The outcome will be a collection of work in sketchbook form, a personal and varied set of fashion work that explores and investigates different and individual themes chosen by each student. Students should also produce supporting work, such as smaller A5 sketch books and research files. As long as you attend a minimum of 80% of your classes, we will provide you with a certificate of attendance.

This book identifies four distinct types of creative journal, each representing a different phase in the design process: the inspiration diary, the working journal, the presentation journal and the design log; and it explores how one develops out of the other, each stage in the idea generation process moving the process forward organically from discovery, to direction, to design development and delivery. Once you’ve worn your garment a few times, it’s also worth thinking about if you’ve realized there are additional changes you need to make in the future—capture it in your sketchbook and you’re much more likely to remember. I often find that I don’t realize which alterations I need until my garment has been through the wash a few times and worn in different environments. By keeping a diary of your sewing, your sketchbook can become a living record, helping you perfect your tried-and-true patterns, and allowing you to avoid repeating the same mistakes.
