About this deal

When setting up a wireless access point with the Unifi Dream Machine SE, there are several things to consider such as placement and configuration settings. For optimal performance, it’s best to place the access point in an area where there is good line of sight between it and other devices on the network such as computers or phones.

Connect (currently in Early Access): A fully integrated "Enterprise of Things" hardware and software solution that works with UID to simplify IT management for organizations.

AC Mesh Professional

For new deployments however it's a harder choice both are great products this really comes down to how is it going to be used and is it worth the extra money? I have to think though that if you have a connection that fast your needs are probably going to be pushing what the software supports, that said a 2.5Gbe port does make sense even if it won't be needed that often - yet. Integrated 128 GB SSD Finally, the UDM-SE has eight PoE Gigabit LAN ports. You can use them to host any wired devices, including PoE cameras, IP phones, access points, and more. This really does make total sense as an addition that I could see becoming standard when the next version is released or certainly the ability to physically add the drive in after manufacturer if needed. It has POE! The whole setup worked well, and I could easily keep tabs on the network. The UniFi mobile app has almost the same access to the system as the web user interface, which is helpful. The Ubiquiti UDM-SE's wired performance (via SFP+-to-10GBASE-T transceivers.)

Please Note:Whilst there is no official hard limit on the number of managed devices, for maximum stability, Ubiquiti advises a soft cap of 45 devices per UDM. This includes switches and access points. The wireless client device limit is unaffected. Ubiquiti UniFiDream Machine Special Edition (UDM-SE) Engineered for end-to-end simplicity, the UDM SE features an integrated Bluetooth radio that streamlines the initial setup and configuration process, which can be completed in minutes with the UniFI Network application (web or mobile). I actually believe this drive is intended to allow the UDM SE to be used in larger deployments that might have problems due to the internal eMMC and it's smaller capacity. Larger deployments would have the need to store more information such as Network events, logs around user access, voice mail or recorded messages etc.

Both Pro and SE comes with dual WAN ports, but the difference is SE has 2.5GbE while Pro has 1 GbE. If you have a modem and internet service that is beyond 1Gbps, you could certainly see the benefit from this additional port.

I personally do not see a reason for upgrade because I won’t see any performance gain with it myself. You may choose the UDM Pro because you need more PoE ports than the 8 available on the UDM SE. In this case, consider a managed PoE switch such as the US-8-150W. Do I need the UDM if I already have the USG? This is great for small deployments where you might have limited access points and camera's and you don't need a second switch. The price In fact, coupling the UDM-SE with the U6 Enterprise and you'll get a better Wi-Fi solution than the Dream Wall with a couple of hundred US dollars to spare. (The console can manage any UniFi APs via the Network application.) LCM display (1) 1.3" touchscreen Bootup animation: bootup in progress Firmware upgrade icon: firmware upgradingBoth UDM-SE and UDM-Pro support Wireguard VPN now (earlier only the UDM-SE did). What else do you need to buy along with the UDM?
