The Nuvo TooT is designed to be a bridge instrument for players taking their first steps towards the flute, though in construction it is most likeable to the fife. The main difference is that the TooT has a larger bore, which means that the instrument is that slightest bit shorter. This means that smaller players will have no problem bringing the instrument closer to the body, and can be played like a flute without the need for a curved head joint. Theory & Manuscript Books

Plastic Woodwind Instruments

Plastic Woodwind Instruments have become widely used in Education, not least because they are cheaper than the real thing but because they are small and light and have a remarkable sound making them very acceptable teaching instruments – not to mention almost indestructible!

The Lyons C clarinet and latterly the Clarineo is used by thousands of students throughout the world. Recently joined by the Nuvo flute and jSax, plastic woodwind instruments are opening up avenues that otherwise wouldn’t have existed.

Similar in nature to the fife, the Nuvo TooT has a slightly wider bore which allows the instrument to be a little shorter and brings the tone holes closer to the body - great for shorter arms!

jSax The jSax, has been designed for players who are more specifically interested in progressing onto the saxophone. Again, like the DooD, the jSax is a single reed instrument helping to build a players sound production, posture and basic fingerings. The jSax is supplied with a carry case, a fingering chart, and 2 plastic reeds. You can also use cane reeds for a more traditional playing feel. Woodwind instrument mouthpiece caps, ligatures and accessories are all essentials for playing a clarinet or saxophone. Different ligatures have a marked effect on the feel and tone of the instrument while a mouthpiece cap protects and preserves the reeds.

The new updated TooT now also has silicone key flaps with inserts which cover the holes needed for chromatic playing, these inserts can be removed once the student is ready for these notes. The set includes the NUVO Firstnote lip plate which can be used in the early lessons while the student is learning posture, fingering and playing simple tunes. When ready, the Firstnote can be replaced by the regular lip plate which is also included. See video

Flute

The standard flute in C comes with a wide variety of options from the silver plated student models to flutes which are precious metal throughout. There is also the option of closed hole which the vast majority of student flutes are, or open hole which is more common in advanced models.

Alto Flute

The Alto flute is the next extension downward of the Flute in C. It is characterized by its distinct, mellow tone in the lower portion of its range.

Flutes, like most woodwind instruments, are incredibly complex. The TooT overcomes fingering obstacles via four unique double holes, which makes it easier to play chromatically. The TooT is thus a perfect starter instrument to introduce the woodwind family, or perhaps for older players who played in childhood and now wish to revisit the flute or fife without spending a fortune.
