About this deal

The fur was highlighted with Administratum Grey and then with a mix of Administratum Grey and Pallid Wych Flesh.

The sweet spot is 8-12 activations. You want plenty of ‘useful’ models with good abilities, high strength, high toughness and punch (though you won’t get all of these outside of very pricey models) and some jobbers to push buttons, act as speed bumps and play the objectives. Overall I dig the Twists and while it’s definitely not a good fit for Matched Play it fits well in the “anything goes” part of Open Play and gives it a bit more of an interesting identity so that’s probably the best place to put more experimental mechanics like this. Generally speaking, Nurgle tends to pull ahead mathematically. All Nurgle heroes grant Reroll 1s to wound, and as wound buffs are harder to come by you generally want them when you can get them. If its your general it gives a +1 to damage. Ouch! Khorne has some value as a General, allowing you to reroll 1s to hit or +1 to wound if its your general. Slaanesh is pretty limited and Undivided and Tzeentch can go in the dumpster.Where every other Warcry Chaos warband calls one of the eight Mortal Realms their home, the Spire Tyrants’ homeland is the Eightpoints itself.

This makes them quite an advanced warband to play, as your strongest abilities often require you to set up a kill that can trigger them. Venomblood with Shield and Spear (Threat Infantry Unit) – 135pts Alternate Build for Venomblood with Shield and Barbed Whip He has the same statistics profile as the Pit Fighter with Punch Dagger, but with 1 less damage on critical hit. The only shortcoming here is the meager 10 wounds, do not let the enemy outnumber you or the plan will crumble There are fun alternatives like Hosts of the Everchosen if you want to run a hyper elite army of Archaon with all Varanguard. You do have options. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from the hero-posed muscle man that leads them to some very skinny pit fighters, and they even include two non-human models, a Beasts of Chaos Bestigor and a Chaos Duardin. Simple, beautiful and spiky – if you’re looking to paint some Spire Tyrants, you can’t go wrong with Tyler Mengel’s latest guide… Three objectives are on the table, and at the end of the first round the players roll off and the winner removes an objective and at the end of the second round they do this again. At the end of the fourth round, whoever holds the objective wins. Here you can see how I painted what I think is the coolest model in the warband: The Bestigor Destroyer. Think about how you can tactically use waiting to control the activations in the turn. But you either want models that are legit useless mooks, or to think very carefully about it, and useless mooks are something you select in the design warband phase.

The paralyzing edge is a nice touch too, given you can use this to punch an absolute hole in an enemy threat and also prevent it from even being able to move. The 3” whip enables the Venomblood to fight at a greater distance. While nowhere near as killy as the Spear-armed variant, the whip is a good applicator of Paralysing Venom. Smear toxins across your lash and give the enemy a taste from behind the safety of a Chaff screen. The Chaos Lord on foot and on Manticore are both solid. The Manticore has a good anti-horde spell while on foot has a great buff spell and is cheap to boot, despite a recent cost increase. The slaves to Darkness spell lore is very good so you’ll probably bring at least one of these guys. Look at the big hitters you have available, and what abilities you have that boost either damage or strength in combat. If you don’t have access to strength 5, what do you have for damage output? Do you have large numbers instead of it? Does your warband go for whittling down with ranged weapons, or board control, or something else to replace punching really hard?

The Armour

Do you want to Pillage and Burn the land without remorse? Do you enjoy Chaos but having to choose a single god make you squeamish? Do you want to run one of the biggest and best god models in the game? Then come on down to Slaves to Darkness, the faction where mortals of every chaos god can get together and share their common love of burning down the holdings of Sigmar, Nagash and just about anyone that isn’t them. Sometimes their own stuff too if they’re getting antsy. Warcry 2nd edition is now nicely settling in. With the core rules and an enormous number of factions available for free on Warhammer Community, the changeover has been very smooth between editions. The rules changes are all improvements, reactions add a lot to the game, but the new edition has been a small evolution, not a revolution in the rules. Edge cases are fixed, and you can’t play fetch with objectives using beasts anymore, etc etc. They’ve also tidied up runemarks so there aren’t 27 variations of a skull in a circle and you’re left trying to work out which is which without using a magnifying glass. The Spire Tyrants eschew subtle tactics. They do not use feints, secret paths, or false retreats. The instead prefer to engage battle directly by charging through the middle. They give no pause to retreating enemies and will move to cut them down.

This is a continuation of a concept introduced in the Stormcast Battletome. Heroic Upgrades let you upgrade your Heroes to a different warscroll once you have the necessary Renown and Glory. Mostly they are what you expect. Want to give your Chaos Lord a mount? You can do it here. Make your Exalted Hero of Chaos a full blown Chaos Lord? Right here. This is great for serving the narrative of taking your lowly Hero to the top of the ladder of Daemon Princedom. Or he can just cheat and roll it on the table. If only building using 1 box, taking the Pit Veteran with Dual Weapons and Pit Fighter with Spear gives you the most versatility out of those fighters. Getting hold of more Pit Fighters can really up the competitiveness of the Spire Tyrants. The TechRaptor Spire Tyrants warband out of the warband box. Spire Tyrants General Tactics This sets them apart from the rest of the Warcry Chaos warbands, since they don’t worship a shamanistic symbol of Chaos. The Spire Tyrants know what they’re dealing with, and calls themselves the Chosen of Archaon himself.

The Red Cloth

The Hammer and Dagger however, or as I like to think of them in this case, the twin fangs of the serpent, will be about their business around the table. With dedicated strategies, the Spire Tyrants can get missions done. Removing a section of the enemy or holding an objective can be straight-forward with the right deployment. If the enemy has fast-moving targets, that need to be removed, try to herd them into a corner. But once you focus on a task, see it through to completion, they don't have the maneuverability to be able to change plans half-way through the game.
