The main soundbar and subwoofer are both very robustly built, and while the subwoofer isn’t especially attractive (few are), you can hide it away at the side of the sofa or under a side table without necessarily spoiling its sound. Taking advantage of Samsung's Multi-Intelligence AI upscaling, the QN900A was consistently able to produce images that looked better than their source. We're not saying that it made any 4K content look like native 8K, but it did make it appear better than Ultra HD when viewed up close. The sound isn’t particularly different to that of 2020’s Q800T unless you’re using it in conjunction with a Q70A or above Samsung TV. Since the Q800T was already an outstanding soundbar, though, the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ adage applies. The net result of all the Q930B’s various changes creates a sense that Samsung has, for arguably the first time, properly thought through the Q930B as a proper surround sound step down from its flagship model. A decision which yields sound quality gold, as we’ll see later. The Samsung QN900A delivers 8K performance with aplomb
The Atmos performance of the Samsung Q900A soundbar is average. The panel uses speakers located at the top of the cabinet to bounce sound off the ceiling and return to the listener (simulating pitch). However, Atmos doesn’t sound nearly as real as discrete localization found in almost any home theater or AV receiver. This feature is designed to synchronize sound reproduction of the soundbar and compatible Samsung TVs for a harmonious, cinematic experience. Additionally, the both also have good stereo soundstage performance. Their stereo soundstage may be perceived to be only a bit wider than the width of their bar itself, but this is not a serious issue. That is good is that their sound has a good focus. This means, the sound produced is seem to come from an accurate pinpoint location than a more general area. Meanwhile, their stereo sound can also get very loud. At max volume, they both can get more than 98 db SPL, loud enough to fill up a crowded party or large room. While they both can get very loud, their distortion performance is also great. At normal listening volume, they both can produce very clean and pure sound. Meanwhile, at max volume, there is only a bit distortion that should be hard to notice for most users in real-life content. As with the Q990B, the balance and consistency of the Q930B’s sound seems to benefit from the built-in Space Fit auto calibration system. Certainly, after running the Space Fit utility, no individual channel sounded either under- or over-represented in a movie mix.
