About this deal

Pittards manufactures leather products for third parties as well as its owned Daines & Hathaway and Hill & Friends brands. For decades the fashion industry chased the cheapest needle around the world, abandoning British manufacturing in the process. Supply chains see garments crisscross the globe. Linen grown in Europe is shipped to Asia to be dyed before returning to Europe to be made into shirts. Plastic buttons manufactured in China are transported to Italy to be wrapped in fabric before being sent to Portugal to be attached to clothes. The high carbon cost of such journeys is exacerbated by wastefulness when, due to a lengthy lead time, the finished product is out of date by the time the label is sewn on. It’s important to me that I can turn up unannounced and have a chat and a relationship with the people making my clothes Deborah Bee, Bee & Sons

Shares in the Yeovil, Somerset-based leather and leather goods producer were down 39% to 23.00p each in London on Friday afternoon. Vivienne and Hugh (live across the way) were happy to answer any question or to give me recommendations/guidance. The rooms were immaculate and totally up to C19 standards. I found it peaceful and very comfortable especially the bed and lovely linen! The upper garden was my retreat in the evening time with a glass to watch the country skyline. This location is so well positioned for walks, NT and the sea. I highly recommend it. Mary Somerset Live understands that urgent talks were ongoing with a potential buyer throughout the week, with a source at administrator Ernst & Young (EY) believing it was likely that a deal could be reached. A sign fastened to the door of the shop at Pittards' Yeovil factory stated: "The shop will be reopening on Thursday (September 7)." Yeovil's last remaining glove firm, Pittards, has hit financial struggles and could be sold or even close entirely. Founded in 1826, Pittards is a key part of the long history of leather manufacturing and glove-making in Yeovil and the wider area. The cottage was superb - great location, comfortable furnishings, excellent equipment and scrupulously clean."The firm, which employs around 200 people in the UK and 1,000 in Ethiopia, manufactures premium gloves as well as a range of other high-quality leather goods, including belts and handbags. It is headquartered on the A30 Sherborne Road in Yeovil. A serious and thoughtful bank that worked with its clients would not have pushed Pittards to the brink but enlarged its facilities freeing a well led management team to make a great success. We were at the English tannery Pittards. Employee long service certificates were being handed out to those with more than 25 years’ service and at the same time the Company wanted to recognise 15 recent starters by giving them a copy of a small book I had written about the Glove Business.

Could not fault this cottage, clean, cosy, well equipped, owners very helpful, highly recommended." Well positioned for walks directly from the cottage. Many National Trust properties within easy reach. Inside Pittards. ‘There is a very real sense of ownership of what we make,’ says Hankey. Photograph: Jim Wileman/The Guardian

Retailers:

Pittards Farm Cottage is a lovely converted building fitted out with quality fixtures & furnishings that made for a relaxing & comfortable stay, also spotlessly clean." A very relaxing and peaceful property where many things were provided including hand soap dispensers/sanitizer/dishwasher tablets/shower gel/shampoo and much more. The leather goods firm's shares on the AIM market have been suspended at the price of 5.375p as a full audit is to be completed for the year.
