Powerful and affordable mid-drive conversion ebike kit that can convert most bikes to high power ebikes We are able to adjust the controller software. We ship the kits with the throttle configured for full power in all assist levels. There are also many user adjustable settings available in the display. The BBSHD is a more powerful version of the BBS02, it has a larger motor structure, which can deliver higher power levels than the smaller BBS02 and a larger 12 fet controller. See below links to view documentation on the kit and display. The BBSHD’s settings are presented on three separate screens: Basic, Pedal Assist and Throttle. The Pedal Assist Screen (2 of 3) One thing you will have to be aware of is if you do fit a smaller front chainring, the lowered gearing will make the bike prone to power wheelies, especially when hitting full throttle in a low gear on a steep hill start – I have had personal experience of this!
To remove your cranks, you will need a crank puller. Seriously, get a crank puller or borrow one. I tried to get them off without it, and it’s not worth trying. You’ll probably break something.

The gear sensor helps achieve smoother gear changes by pausing the motor during shifts. The kit includes brake levers for cable brakes, but with hydraulic brakes or integrated gear-brake units, you need to attach brake sensors. Karl blew out his nylon gear which may very well be the weak point in the bbshd, and he did so riding at top speed until his drive got hot and seemed to have melted the gear. This is all you need if you are upgrading your old BBS01 or BBS02, or swapping out a different sized BBSHD bare motor So you can even put the BBSHD on your fat bike! Stopping fast is as important as going fast….and quality brakes that don’t overheat or squeal are such a nicety. I found the gears easier than my old bike. Much prefer just having the 8 on one shift, and they are all really smooth. Some motors are sold configured with BB-Sensor-32. Others with DoubleSignal-24. BBSHD motors reportedly have 24 sensor signals per rotation, which points to the latter as the proper setting. I have tested both and found zero difference in performance or behavior.
