Rust up metal weapons and banners with Citadel Technical Typhus Corrosion and stab it with VMC Orange-Red. Paint the red areas with Citadel Contrast Flesh Tearers Red. Drybrush the cloth with VGC Blue Grey. Re-apply Drakenhodff to any screw recess or edge that doesn’t look dark enough, plus around the insignias just painted.
All of the teal areas were basecoated with Sotek Green . For this model I did a stripe on his head and another along the most forward edge of his carapace. US Infantry Citadel Contrast Painting Guide
Basilicanum Grey from Citadel Colour is an acrylic paint that dries to a matte finish. This paint is a part of the “Contrast” range, which is designed to enhance details on miniature models. The pigment is quite thin, and as a result, it flows smoothly over the surfaces, making it an excellent choice for base-coating, shading, and highlighting. It can be used alone or as a foundation to build upon, making it a versatile addition to any miniature painting palette. What armies to paint with Basilicanum Grey
They often need multiple coats to achieve a similar level of richness. Also, the pigment-based formula doesn’t really work with zenithal shading, as the opaque pigments will gather in the dark recesses and make them brighter, which is not exactly what you want. My paint scheme begins as most of mine do: weird research. I knew I wanted to get out of the swamp and started researching desert amphibians. I found the Peter’s Banded Skink which looks like a lizard going through a My Chemical Romance phase and figured it’d be perfect. That led me into a broader search of skinks. My Kruleboy heroes will be painted like the Blue-Tongue Skink; this lets me carry the eyeshadow motif through the entire army and use blue as a thematic spot color. The Hobgrots adorn themselves with blue in honor of their larger, stronger master. Skin Tones
DONE. Really. That’s it. The basing I’ll have to cover another day, but it’s essentially Vallejo Earth Texture sprayed with a green/brown, then had a few pigments mashed on top of it before a heavy coat of pigment fixer. Very very easy and effective basing. The grass tufts are Mininatur Tufts of Desert. Highlight armor and weapons with a VERY light drybrush of Vallejo Metal Color Exhaust Manifold (Focus near the top/front of these elements, the steel is not supposed to be shiny! Magic Blue is a little darker and more intense than Talassar Blue, but with a little thinning it would be very similar. Highlord Blue is a little lighter and more of a prussian blue than Ultramarines Blue, while Cloudburst Blue is very similar to Leviathan Blue. In terms of turquoise, The Army Painter only has a single colour, Plasmatic Bolt, which is similar to Aethermatic Blue, but much deeper and darker. Let’s move on to brown and bone. Pallid Bone is a bit warmer and softer than Skeleton Horde, Hardened Leather is very similar to Goregrunta Fur, while Sand Golem is a warm light brown. Dark Wood is like a mix of Wyldwood and Cygor Brown. Crusader Skin is a bit more reddish than Guilliman Flesh. The Army Painter promises that Speedpaint is a real “one coat paint” and provide a consistent feel across the range. You can see it in the paint swatch below – the results of Speedpaints are more homogenous, whereas there is a broader distribution between light and dark in Contrast paints. Features
Apply a sponge weathering of dark brown and dark silver to the armour, the battle damage will draw away the focus from any areas not perfectly highlighted. Basilicanum Grey is a versatile color that can be used on a variety of Warhammer 40K armies. It is a great choice for painting vehicles, buildings, and even some infantry units. I feel that with this internet source that’s where these paint guides should live as there are some terrific film clips out there The base was very fun to do, it was constructed mainly from thin slate and wood putty. This putty is great to use for bases, it dries fast and carves very easily. The little shrooms and critters on the base where especially fun to paint! Two thin coats Sotek Green, using a smaller brush to avoid filling in the screw recesses, and not worrying about going too deep at the edges now because the wash takes care of it.
