About this deal

In around a month I will have my new bike (an SL6), and my intention has been to make it "aero with judgement". What I mean is, whenever aero gains could be made relatively easily and without compromising too much else, I would go for them. A 500ml round bottle is very common especially in triathlon events where you may get a bottle handup from an aid station. A smaller bottle like this can also be placed in multiple locations around the bike. In this test we found that the worst place to keep a 500ml round bottle was one of the more convenient: on the downtube! This cost 5.0w at 40kph, or 2.1w at 30kph. Over an Ironman bike leg at 5hr30min speed (32.7kph) this would be a 2min5sec penalty.

The bottle is made of BPA-free plastic and is much easier to clean than some of the other frame mounted systems we saw. The watts saved by different hydration solution depends a lot on your riding speed. The faster you go the more gain you can get from using an aerodynamic solution for hydration. The slower the fewer gains you can get in comparison with a normal water bottle. So before choosing which solution is best for you, start by assessing your average speed on your next race. This hydration system also features an aerodynamic profile with a slip-free design so you do not have to worry about slowing down. This is also one of the larger frame mounted systems with a capacity of 24 oz and a bottle made of BPA-free plastic. For one, this hydration system can support up to 2 bottles but is just as effective and aerodynamic when supporting only one. As we mentioned earlier, bottle placement can be very individual, but the results we saw for Jess were typical to what we see with a lot of riders. We often recommend that if in doubt, place a bottle behind your saddle as this usually results in the least penalty. In some cases it has even been faster! Having a bottle between your arms is also a good option as we found with Jess, but it works best with riders that have their arms close together, rather than wide apart. Jess decided to go with the fastest of the available choices (500ml bottle behind the saddle) for her future long distance TTs. Finally, this hydration system maximizes its design with an aerodynamic profile as well as a non-slip grip.

In comparison with a 500mL standard bottle fixed on the downtube, the power you have to produce when riding can be reduced. Let’s see a comparison of the watts saved by different solutions for hydration on the bike: Rank Profile Designs seems far more interested in front mounting hydration systems and merely pay lip-service to the rear mounted market. The Gorilla XT is the primary cage that the overwhelming majority of XLAB rear mounted hydration systems use. Light and Strong In this light, I have equipped it with wheels/handlebar/tires that would give me any practically minuscule yet theoretically gratifying gains, without compromising other variables too much.Cycle Centre Congleton Limited 2021. Cyclestore is a trading name of Cycle Centre Congleton Limited. All Rights Reserved Company No. 05107467 | VAT No: 593 733 507 This hydration system also features a low profile which makes it more aerodynamic, but it also leaves it less secure when riding over rough terrain. Remember, they will likely be using a fueling system as well, so it is more important that your hydration system feel as comfortable and natural as possible. While technically there are three primary mounts, the front mount actually has two different sub-mounts.
