About this deal

YEAR GUARANTEE: Buy with the confidence of knowing that your new LawnMaster robot mower and battery comes with a two-year guarantee and UK based customer support team. My front garden doesn’t have any slopes, but there are lawns all over the UK that do. If this sounds like your garden then you’ll be pleased to know that the LawnMaster VBRM16 can handle inclines up to 35%. This is comparable to the range of Flymo and WORX robotic mowers. Charge and Mow Time Robot lawn mowers are traditionally fiddly to set up, requiring an outdoor power supply and a boundary wire laid around the edge of the lawn to stop the robot disappearing off into your flower beds. The LawnMaster VBRM16 is different, though, and can be ready to start mowing as soon as you’ve brought it home and charged its battery. SPOT CUT FUNCTION: for a neat finish, use the additional spiral spot cut function on any uncut grass.

Supplied with a detachable 4.0Ah MX 24V lithium-ion battery and fast one hour charger, the battery can be charged wherever is convenient with no need for an outdoor power source. Part of the MX 24V Shared Battery System. Every MX 24V 4.0Ah battery and charger is fully compatible with the LawnMaster MX 24V cordless range, including lawnmowers, hedge trimmers, grass trimmers, chainsaws and leaf blowers. This means that you don’t need to buy a new battery and charger every time. I allowed the lawn in my front garden to grow to around 60mm, despite having given it the first cut of the season the week before testing the LawnMaster VBRM16. For this, I used the 40mm cutting height but there are five options to choose from between 20mm and 60mm which I thought was more than adequate. If you are someone that doesn’t want the hassle of using a complicated advanced robotic lawn mower, then the LawnMaster VBRM16 will be right up your street. It’s a brilliant entry level robot mower as operation is as good as fool proof. What’s more, it’s incredibly affordable so you won’t need to spend a lot of money to familiarise yourself with this type of technology. I found that, when testing the LawnMaster VBRM16, it detected the perimeter of my lawn very easily and would stop and turn in good time. However, my front lawn, as you will see in the video review, does have well defined boundaries. The beauty of the LawnMaster VBRM16 is that it’s so easy to use. It doesn’t require a smartphone app so it’s perfect if you’re not great with tech and even the control panel on the machine is a breeze to use.

Keeping your grass trimmed doesn’t have to spoil your weekend; the best robot lawn mowers will do the job for you

SAFETY: Using the camera and ultrasonic sensors the mower detects and avoids obstacles such as garden furniture. A child safety key prevents unauthorised use, and sensors stop the blade when the mower is lifted.

For safety, the mower detects and avoids obstacles using the camera and ultrasonic sensors. It also features a safety key preventing use by children, and sensors which stop the blades when the machine is lifted. There’s a button on the control panel which you can press after popping the mower down in whichever area needs touching up. It’ll then use a spiral pattern to trim any longer bits of grass and ensure a uniform finish over the whole lawn. Cutting Pattern

What should I consider when choosing a robot lawn mower?

Key specs – Size: 425 x 350 x 220mm (WDH); Weight: 6.6kg; Cutting height: 20-60mm; Maximum lawn size: 100m²; Maximum incline: 35%; Replaceable battery: Yes I have also done a video review of the LawnMaster VBRM16 which includes a detailed rundown of its performance and, as you will see, the excellent results on my front lawn. Again, for such an affordable piece of equipment, I was pleasantly surprised. Most robot lawn mowers then require you to set up a scheduled mowing time, which is either done on the mower itself or by using an app. While the LawnMaster VBRM16 is a pretty simple piece of equipment in the scheme of things, it does have a good number of features, especially when you consider the low price. You can see these features in more detail in my video review but let me talk you through them now. Height Adjustment

PART OF THE MX 24V SHARED BATTERY SYSTEM: Expand your LawnMaster cordless garden power tool collection without having to buy a new battery and charger every time with the MX 24V Shared Battery System. For people who want a robot mower that is lightweight (6.6kg) and easy to store, the LawnMaster VBRM16 makes an excellent choice as it’s so compact. What’s more, it comes with a carry handle so moving it around is even easier. Given the decent running time, there’s no concern that this random pattern won’t allow for full coverage of the entire lawn. In fact, my lawn was completed in a little over three hours and there weren’t any spots that the LawnMaster VBRM16 missed. Mulching It comes with a SIM pre-installed and the cost of the service is included in the price. The great benefit of this is that it doesn’t need Wi-Fi, so it doesn’t matter if your signal doesn’t reach your garden. However, you still get all the benefits of a connected app, so you can set your mower going from your armchair.I tested the LawnMaster VBRM16 on my front lawn and was really pleased with the results and how well this machine worked. It was simple and easy to use, has a great run time and is overall a well made and impressive piece of garden equipment. In the event that the LawnMaster VBRM16 completes the mow but has missed any spots, you can use the spot cut mode to tidy these up.

What do I mean by this? Well, unlike most robotic mowers, this one isn’t designed to be left outside all the time. It’s a drop and go machine which can be charged indoors and then you simply need to pop it on the ground and let it do its thing. There are many advantages to this which I’ll dive into in my LawnMaster VBRM16 review. ADJUSTABLE CUTTING HEIGHT: Choose from cutting heights of between 20mm and 60mm for a neat looking lawn. For best performance and to encourage healthy lawn growth use 60mm for longer grass and after regular mowing, gradually reduce the cutting height to your desired length. Object avoidance: A feature that all robot vacuums have but rarely seen on robot mowers, certainly at the lower end of the price spectrum. A good safety feature for those with pets or kids who play in the garden unsupervised. Mechanically, most robot lawn mowers are surprisingly similar. In your garden they look a bit like a tiny car, about the same size as an upturned washing-up bowl, with two large wheels to control movement and one or two coasters to add stability. They tend to cut the grass with sharp steel blades that closely resemble razor blades, which you will find attached to a spinning disc on the underside of the mower’s chassis. Are they difficult to set up?You also need to lay a boundary wire around the edge of the area you want your robot to mow. This is usually supplied on a reel, is connected to the charging station at both ends and carries a low voltage, which the mower uses to detect when to stop and turn around. You can bury this wire, or peg it down and eventually it will bed down into the grass. Maximum lawn size: Larger lawns tend to need a smarter and more expensive mower, so measure your garden before you buy, to the nearest 100 square metres. Key specs – Size: 445 x 364 x 202mm (WDH); Weight: 7.6kg; Cutting height: 30-50mm; Maximum lawn size: 700m²; Maximum incline: 27%; Replaceable battery: Yes The boundary wire is the only guidance they have, and they will move around your garden for a set period or until they need to return to their base station for a recharge. Gardena’s app lets you carve your garden into areas, so you can set it to mow some sections more than others. This includes CorridorCut, which reduces the intensity of the mow in small, narrow areas that don’t need as much repetitive mowing. If you don’t like watering, either, you can also control Gardena’s automated irrigation system (not included) using the same app.
