The populist conservative movement known as the New Right enjoyed unprecedented growth in the late 1970sand early 1980s. Coming to the keycaps, they are made from ABS material and feature a custom NAE profile which I have never heard of before. The closest comparison I can make is that they are a mixture of XDA and MDA profiles. It has the height and slant of an MDA profile keycaps, but adopts the large dome of the XDA keycaps on the top. And I quite like this profile - it’s extremely comfortable to type on and the large face of the keycaps accommodates my fingertips gently and fully. It actually might be one of my favorite keycap profiles - it’s much better than Cherry and OEM profiles for sure, and far more comfortable than the SA profile.

And it also seems there is some sort of a switch pad pre-installed on the PCB which again works reasonably well in keeping the sound of the switches consistent and largely pleasant. Joining the TH80 in the box is a manual of the keyboard functions, a decent-quality white USB-C cable, and a combo switch/keycap puller. The keyboard is mounted with multiple small silicone gasket mounts. They don’t provide any bounce to the keyboard (not that much can be achieved with the iron plate) but they do work well in providing a consistent sound profile to the keyboard, which is pretty much the point of a gasket mount. Like I saw with the TH66, the TH80 the plate-mounted stabilizers are injected with a healthy dose of lube. This makes them better-sounding than most of the other prebuilts that I’ve tested, but there’s still room for improvement. Users wanting to eliminate all rattle will want to open the stabilizers up and re-lube them, while also making use of the “band-aid mod” to minimize the housing wobble.

The fonts used, however, are a different story. I actually like them on the function keys like Enter, Shift, etc, but the larger print of the alphabetics is a little bit too out there. I don’t mind them a lot, but I can see how some may not vibe with them at all. Regardless, they are well printed, the legends are sharp and clear, and I did not notice any misalignment or loose ends of any kind.
